Awesome work Jono great to see you out there. Funny thing is I can only remember one other Galant at Mopar Sunday and he won the dyno comp as well!

any pics/specs on that?

Im guessing he was in a different engine class (unless he also ran a N/A 4cyl producing 71.7hp)

:P last year davenq won in his GB pulling 51 hp. And thanks scorpma, that's exactly it, there's no point in having a car and not enjoying it

My old green wagon ran 20.01....if you leave just after the the 3rd amber light (im talking, as you see it starting to turn on), you'll get a .4 reaction time

Just remember, a better reaction time DOES NOT give you a better ET as your ET only starts AFTER you've taken off....NOT when the light turns green

Just watched your footage. your run certainly looks quite good, you skipped the water burnout area (which given the power your makes...is a smart move), you staged quite well (you would benefit from being a bit more patient in the staging process......i creep fairly carefully into 'prestage', stop the car dead and then creep very, very, very slowly into 'stage'....if you leave just as the 3rd amber is illuminating, you'll cut a good reaction time (note, a better reaction time doesn't give you a better ET)...other than that...great, smooth run....well done

Cheers Scorp, my father kept nagging me to warm the tyres but i really didnt want to bother with it as it didnt need it. i know reaction time isnt going to affect my ET, just a personal goal to get that down. and my only problem by the end of the day was launching the car, it bogs down alot on launch so im not sure what to do there.

And Dave, from here i want to have 1 more stab at getting more power/better ET after i swap the carby, the single solex i have isnt functioning 100% and felt like it was only just producing enough fuel once i got to the end of the track, actually had the car splutter and almost die on me in an early race. so i am going to rebuild the 34adm off of the GA and put it on, then see how i go. after that then it will be time for boost :D

Don't rev the engine like your trying to hold the car up on boost. (irrelavent with a N/A engine)

Simply hold the rpm high(er) up in the rev range
(i usually leave the line at about 4,000 rpm or so)

Then simply dump the clutch and a away you go

I will agree with higher revs on the start. There's not much down low power (if any) in a 4G32.
Hearing it on the track, it reminded me why I swapped out the cam in my wagon, with a stock one they just don't rev (although your carb by the sounds wont be helping).
Get that weber on, then head down to the track, and try to improve on that time. And then DRIVE IT LIKE IT'S STOLEN

Yeah, hold the revs up at the start but I wouldn't be dumping or sidestepping the clutch. If you do that one of three things will happen 1. You will bust the weak diff 2. It might spin the wheels, resulting in shocking tramp 3. And most likely it will just bog down and go nowhere.
I would be holding the revs about 3500 rpm and slip the clutch of the start so the revs stay there.

Chuck the webber on, get a h/d clutch and have a ball

:stupid:

3.5-4000rpm, slip the clutch, shift quick and around the 6k mark?? I don't know what your ratios and power is like.

Axle tramp is a bitch in these! And unless you like buying pumpkins (crown wheels), I'd stay clear of that..

Went out to Munchies again tonight and noticed that it was a bit hard to get into gear while i was driving there, sure enough when i was about 100m away from where i needed to be the cable snapped, and as luck would have it the light in between me and where i needed to be was amber and the car in front decided to stop, so i got stuck on the side of the road 20m away from my destination :banh:

Luckily i had a spare at home and was able to call in a favor and get a friend to pick it up and drop it off at where i was :)

Cheers

I know how you feel.....I went to show off infront of a few people some years ago (went to do a burnout) revved the thing right out in nuetral, dumped the clutched a planted my foot to the floor, only to have the throttle cable snap and have the car die in he arse and move abut 3ft......quite embarrassing i can assure you....but luckily, my pride was the onl thing that was hurt!

i wasnt showing off, well not untill i got pushed into the carpark :P worse part was all the people i knew were around the back out of sight so i could call anyone over to help me push the car, my mate who got the cable from my place and brought it out started pushing the car with me, then two guys asked if we needed a hand and started pushing the car, then the car got up enough speed that i couldn't keep up with it and overshot the turn as i couldn't turn the wheel :P so then we had to push it back then up into the driveway, i guess thats called putting on a show, not showing off :P

New steering wheel (thanks to llgc  )
Image

Managed to have clutch cable issues again, in peak hour traffic i pulled up at a set of lights, went to put it into first, and.... Nope..... not allowed. so i had a hand to push it off of the main road and onto the side of the shopping centers driveway where i started to figure out what i was going to do. Turns out the foam spacer was crushed (like i didnt see that coming  ) so i had to make a new spacer, Somehow i managed to craft one from a floor mat and electrical tape, but during this process i had the shopping centre security come up to check out what i was doing, probably figured i was making a bomb in the boot of my car since i was sitting there with a bunch of tools and a square object in my hand  anyways they moved me on, said they would push the car out of the driveway and to somewhere safer, of which is where i completed the dodgykent industries cable spacer :P slipped it on and away i went

Cheers

So i was supposed to head out to lakeside for some track time on sunday morning, but the Galant had other idea's, on friday night while on my way home from munchies, i got a wicked vibration from the front left wheel, tapped the brakes and it went away then slowly came back, so looks like im experiencing brake issues on longer drives, i had this problem when i first got the car and thought i had fixed it, time for round 2.

Although i cant drive the car far i still managed to limp it to a smaller car show closer to home in the afternoon

Car looks good Jono but WOW, that side on view really shows how tiny the front brakes are.
Maybe that is your brake problem, someone stole your rotors :P

well i was out and about again today with a cruise up to noosa (130+klm drive there) but the Galant decided she was going to be a brat today.

Firstly before i even left the driveway i noticed there was some liquid under the car. opened the bonnet to find this
Image
When i put the rocker cover back on the gasket had not sealed, leading to over a litre of oil ending up on the firewall and gearbox :banh:

Still determened i went ahead and fixed this in the driveway as i had a spare gasket. topped her up with oil and away i went,

Then on the Bruce Hwy i caught a few massive gusts of wind, which made the small 5cm section of vinyl roof that had come away from the window seal into a good 40cm of vinyl that was flapping around in the wind :banh:
Image
So i got some tape from the servo and taped it all back down.

Then just to add to my day every tropical parrot of the sunshine coast decided to take a dump on the car while it was parked :banh:

But at the end of the day, covered in bird feces and electrical tape, it managed to look danm good (H)

I also noticed i may need an oil cooler, i noticed my oil pressure drop after a few k's on the highway due to the motor running warm, started off at 60psi@3000rpm and by the time i got worried enough to pull over and let it cool down it was at 45psi@3000rpm. am i just being a hypochondriac or is this normal??

Anyways all in all i eventually had an awesome day, cruising with some good people and more awesome cars :D

Cheers

 poor bugger!

As far as the oil goes, you seem my gauge the other day, creeps from 80-120psi easily. So I have no clue!

finally went for a run up Mt Gravatt in daylight so snapped a very bad phone picture while up top

The old girl has been running well these last few months, well until this week that is, i must be having a major ignition issue, it feels like the car is surging while driving around in carparks at low revs, then up high my Tacho is going nuts and not giving accurate readings, it will swing between 5-6k when im up it, at idle fluxuating about 100-200rpm. any ideas, ive had this problem before and all i did was pull the ignition system apart and re-assemble it, making no changes at all.

i might have to, have to give the ignition system a going through and a general check over the car, need to locktite some nuts and bolts as they like to rattle loose after a few months of daily abuse.
