Starion engine into Sigma?

Post by H8DAG8 »

Hi guys

Got an '84 Sigma SE (GV NZ model, equiv. to GK Aussie model?), 4g63 2L SOHC 8 Valve Carby, RWD, KM132/KW132 5spd jap gearbox.

Would a 2L 8 valve turbo engine from a Starion bolt straight into my engine bay? I think it's a G63B engine. Would it also bolt to my gearbox?

I've manage to find one and I've always wanted one of these little turbo engines in my Sigma but I just want to find out if it'll bolt up to my gearbox and mounts etc.

All they've got listed in the title and description is:
Starion Engine & sigma gear box
Crate motor, 2litre single overhead.
And it looks like my engine. Here is a pic:

you can stop telling us what your car is dude, we know by now :P
should be a straight bolt-in swap, you'll need to do a bit of wiring, run an efi fuel system and most possibly a custom turbo-back exhaust though. Piss easy.
You guys have heaps of Jap-market turbo Sigma's over there, buy one and rape it for parts.

Lol better to put what the car is incase someone new comes along with the knowledge I'm needing to know - save them asking!

We have next to no Jap turbo Sigma's over here! They are extremely hard to find - so can't buy one to scrape clean of parts.
Exhaust is fine, easy enough.
But as for the EFI fuel system, what would I need to do to get that all done?

Also, would my new 4g63 head bolt onto this block? Or are they different?

You'd keep the head :D! and wiring is somewhat tricky..to those who dont know what theyre doing, but maybe a trip to the auto elect may save u time, but not money.

I'd keep my current head on the new engine? Or I'd keep the head that's on the new engine on the new engine?
Are you able to outline what wiring is needed? Yea I've got an auto elec. cuz who can probably do it for me if he's got time.

You'd leave the head on the new engine its pretty much the same head i think, may be wrong, but id just leave the head on the new motor and not swap them over, as for wiring, i havent done it myself, but known a few people that have and it is tricky, im not 100% sure what would need to be done, but if you could take it to your auto elect and after work hours get him to do it with you over a beer might be a good way to go ;) Lol

Haha ok sweet cheers bro.

So anyone else able to 100% confirm that these bolt straight into the GV (GK?) shape Sigma's? Both the 5spd jap gearbox and the engine mounts etc.? Power steering, alternator, radiator hoses etc. all line up? If my power steering and alternator etc. were in better condition are they interchangable i.e. exaclty the same?

Cheers

in a word, yes.
Kinda makes sense when you think about it. Same engine, just turbo.

Ah so they are the same engine, ok I wasn't too sure if they were or not. Much like the 4g93 and 4g93t? Used to have an NZ new lancer wagon with a 4g92 (same as 4g93 butt 1600) and ended up putting a 4g93t in it, a lot of the parts were interchangable e.g. powersteering, engine mounts etc.

So the head and block have the exact same measurements as my current ones?

Sweet as, how are you able to confirm? Is your old man a mechanic and knows the in's and out's of Sigma's or?

Yea the 4g63t and 4g63 will be the same if they are both the SOHC 8 valve ones (pre 1990?).
I'm talking about the G63B though, by G63B is that actually a 4g63b?
I need to know if a G63B 8 valve SOHC is the same as a 4g63 8 valve SOHC

Hey mate,
As far as I know the Starion motor is externally the same as the 4G62BT ( 1.8 version ) which is what I have in my GK Sigma. It was a straight bolt in. The build thread is here if there is anything in there helps :

As long as you remove the engine from the Starion first it should fit in no problems

Yea but the thing is the equiv. Sigma's over here come with the 2L 4g63's so I don't know if it'll have the same mounts or not. What engine did yours come with factory?

it'll have the same mounts :)! Stop stressing :) the starion engine is a 2L 4g63..Just with a turbo, so it is exactly the same except it has a turbo. same mounts and all.

I'm not stressing mate I'm just trying to gather as much (solid) info. as possible so I don't buy an engine from someones comment on here only to find the thing doesn't fit and the comment was a load of sh*t. That's what forum is for isn't it? To find/share info. with other like-minded and Mitsi owning individuals!

Cheers for the info.

mate,
Your mounts will fit. Same engine.
Your gearbox will fit. Same engine.
Your ancillaries will fit. Same engine.
Your gearbox mount should fit. Same gearbox, but the Starions had a hydraulic clutch.
Tailshaft should fit.

To reiterate, IT WILL FIT. The only thing you'll need to do is a bit of wiring (which is piss simple, I know because I've helped a mate do it before) and a fuel system. Maybe an exhaust.
Stop worrying so much and do it already.

I know it's a long thread mate but there is a whole bunch of information and pics in there including photos of the Astron Motor before, the Sirius Motor after, as well as gearbox discussions, pictures, and from memory a bit regarding the hydraulic to cable swap issue......
