Our new project - Larry the LC

Post by si81gma »

My brother and dad went to look at a LC hatchback a few months back, didn't end up buying it though. The same guy rang back the other day to see if we were still interested... Typical knackerd Queensland vehicle on the outside (apoligies to the QLDer's who look after their car), bit rough, little bit rusty and very dirty.. Got it for the hefty price of $200. 4G32 and 5 speed running well... Inside was another story, I've seen nicer things at the tip. Was not pretty to say the least... This is what came out of the boot area... :hit:

Plus another garbage bag full of more random shit. Remains of fruit included.

I don't think the back had been cleaned since new.. :banh: Complete with filthy wet carpet..

Image

Part cleaned. Dash is rooted :(

Finally clean.. ish..

Now to shampoo the interior to get rid of the nasty smell.

Needs a good scrubbing, rust repairs and a bloody good service. Then rego. :)

Just a little lol. Mechanically it's pretty good. Luckily the rust isn't too bad, and we have a few spares around for the bad bits. First thing to go are those crappy bumpers, and spotties.. Filters ect. tomorrow :D

Where did you end up getting this from? Wallsend in Newcastle?
I swear it's the same one I looked at over 6 months ago.
I offered $200 for it and got knocked back if it is.
If you give up on it let me know, I'd be interested in it. I'm after mechanical spares for mine, and anything else I can scrounge.

If you continue with it, wow, it looks like it needs a bit of work to bring it back.
What is the body like for rust under the rear lourved windows (that's the first place a Lancer Hatch rusts)?
If it is the one I looked at, what are you going to do with the rust in the tailgate at the base of the window on the drivers side? Do you have a spare tailgate?
Just a bit of info for you. LB hatches do not fit on an LC. They are completely different, so if you are looking for a replacement then you are going to need an LC one.

Marmong Point is where the guy works, I have seen it a few times in Newcastle though. Dad offered him that much months ago too and got knocked back, he kept talking about how much rego was on it. He couldn't get the idea that it was useless in NSW..
As far as rust goes, under the little side windows, one side is pretty bad, the other looks ok. Both doors are rusty, but we have spares to put on. Only small bubbles on the bonnet. Hatch is definitely rusty, has had the old duct tape fix :hit:
Put a chrome rear bumper on it, looks heaps better than the crumpled black crap...

On first sight I would say they are standard seats for the model, but as far as I know the Celeste seats have leather on the sides and fabric in the center part of the seat- and backside. These look completly leather. Maybe originals seats which got refurbished to be completly leather?

The front seats are very worn, pretty much flat and feels like you're sitting on cement.. I think they're just a wreckers job with the factory head rests on them.. The slides haven't been modified either???

Those seats look like they are a early sigma vinyl or something similar. Definitely not the LC style.

They are the standard seats recovered. The standard covering is not very hard wearing. I can guarantee they won't be leather, probably cheap vinyl?
I can show you pics of the original seats if you want? Sigma seats are a lot taller in the squab of the seat. Lancer hatch seats are the perfect addition to a Galant if you want to sit really low in your car. That's what I did to my old GB.

I had the same problem with mine, + you have a metal brace across the back that hurts your lower back.
They are just worn out.
I have fixed the problem in mine by fitting Stratos Seats. They are old too, but in better condition then the Lancer seats.
You'll have to have a look and a seat in them. They are really good.

Yep this is the same car. I saw it filling up at the servo one day in Boolaroo. I stopped to talk to him. He took my number and said he would ring me in 6 months.
I saw it about 6 months later at a servo in Wallsend. I stopped in and asked about it. The garage owner said the car was for sale. That was when I made the offer.
I went back a couple of weeks later and he said it was sold.

What are you doing with the old black bumpers? If you want to get rid of them I'm interested.

They're definitely vinyl.. Perfect for summer driving lol. We have a few factory seats, pretty knackered though :(

Both bars are pretty rough, dinged up and scratched, I think we're keepin the front one, but i'll have a chat to my brother and see if he wants to keep it for a spare (can't see why he would though).

These suckers are past being worn out, I would rather be sitting on thumb tacks... :o
