2.6L LC Lancer Rally Car

Post by Rally_2.6LC »

So thought it time to finally get some pics and info up about my 1980 LC Lancer (I also have a 75 GC Galant, but the batteries in the camera died so i cant take any photos of it at the moment).

So the story starts about 4 years ago when I bought my Galant, and sitting next to it was the beast that i knew was a 1980 LC lancer with a 2.6L in it. I bought the Galant but couldnt convince my parents to let me get the Lancer as well......so it got sold to some guy in Canberra, then came back to sydney to one ofmy mates, and then I got it.....for free :D
This was about 2 years ago when my parents went away camping for the weekend, I had been saying for ages I was going to get a new car and they wouldnt let me. So they went away, I borrowed a trailer, and brought the car home. It was parked at the bottom of the drive way and I put a car cover over it.
The first thing I head when I came home was
"Whos car is that at the bottom of the drive way"
"Thats my new one, you told me to stop racing my daily driver (the Galant) so I got a Lancer to build :D"

So parts kept accumulating and before I knew it the car was built into a half assed rally car (really I just put the interior back together, pulled all the junk out and put rally tyres on it ;D

The first event was a......I cant remember now....I think it was a Motorkhana at Ansell Park in Richmond. It was awesome, all the power over the 1.6L of the galant, but so much more wheel spin :(

Here are some photos of just after I got it before any work was done on it.

.................................well i cant find them and after 30mins of searching it could take a while.

So heres the finished product (with some rebuild photos in between)

I think something is missing between teh bumper and grill

The awesome 14x7's with semi slicks

The Bash plate made from 6mm mild steel that i bent during a rally....but it was so much fun getting airborn

There are some more photos of the car ill upload tomorrow.

Here are some other random photos
Airborn at a Khanacross....damn photographers, they make you go faster......yes i crushed the sump on landing

The after effects of the love tap....i couldnt actually open the door because the guard rippled thus allowing the drivers door to only be opened about 10cm....it was dukes of hazzard style to get out hahahaha

To see all original photos if they are a bit small here is a link to the album

Well GC i loaded them onto photobucket straight from my camera (so original file) and then copied the link to here ??????

I posted some info on my seats in the other thread where u asked.....I used original seats, welded a piece of metal bar on the top of them at the front and rear and then bolted my new seats to the metal bar. My seats had brackets on them that connected to the side of the seat and then bent under the seat and had holes in the bottom of them.
Ill get a pic over the weekend.

Rollcages.....Bond Roll Bars at Mulgrave near Richmond just out of sydney is where i got mine done, i gave the car to them and they built me a bolt in cage, but u could probably ask for a kit and they could bend it from profile (they updated their profile for a better fit when they did mine). Was pretty good, for a 6 point bolt in cage with rear taxi bar and side intrusion bars including bolts and underside plates and a little padding was $1400, however that was me installing it. Without the intrusion bars or taxi bar (thats the part my harnesses go around) its a little cheaper but intrusion bars help a lot in a crash.
I got mine done about 6 months ago so they might remember the car, its purple loud and he liked it because of the 2.6L, so he might remember the profile.
Most of the cage was from their old dimensions they had of the car but they used suzuki siera front legs because they were a better fit.

Hope this helps.

You are getting teh car moving along nicely and the fitout is great. With you pics photobucket has resided them to thumbnails, if you goto the album all you pics are that way except for the ones displayed and these.. ;)

This one is just a little scarey (for you nto me... hehehe)

Image

Photobucket does strange things sometimes. But yes the pic is saved in the album as small.

Cheers

What can I say but I am rather good looking (or was when that photo was taken about 5 years ago.....I think I was about 17 then) hahaha. Yes the silly minds of teens, oh well i did figure out one thing from that night....ladies sunglasses do not suit me (and no i had borrowed them not bought them lol).

How can I get them blown up into bigger pictures for the site then? would love for other people to see the more detail.

Cheers Matt

PS To be old and wise, one must first be young and stupid :D
