Geoffs GE Sigma EFI Turbo Build
Hey guys thought I would start a build thread on here to show my progress and also keep track of it for myself.
Bought this car last weekend for $700, its a 78 Chrysler GE Sigma, clean as, 57,000 ks on the clock, 2.0L Astron. Only bit of rust is around the back window which i want to get done properly.
I really just want to keep the car looking the same except for different wheels and probably lower the front. The plan is to get the motor rebuilt with magna head and inlet, aftermarket cam and all efi gear and obviously a turbo hanging off the side.
Havnt touched it as yet, and probably wont until i get it registered as a stocker and gather parts and what not in the mean time.
Heres a few crappy pics, will get some more when i actually wash and polish it.
Cheers,
Geoff

Re: Geoffs GE Sigma EFI Turbo Build
Is the only reason for not keeping the factory computer because you are planning to run a turbo?WagonWheel wrote:Thanks mate I got the loom so i could keep all the plugs and connectors and what not but ill be using an aftermarket computer.
Just curious, while on the topic of factory computers, are the computers in Magnas different between Manual and Automatic models? Anyone know?

Re: Geoffs GE Sigma EFI Turbo Build
Yeah running aftermarket ecu for ease of tuning because a lot of bits an pieces won't be standard. I would be 99% sure auto an manual computers are different.
Cheers tuffsig. Yeah that gj was ages ago. My first sigma and fell in love. This is my third one. I also had a red gk turbo but carby etc i dunno if you remember that one at all? Some one off this forum bought it off me I think it was evl076 or some thing. Wish I never sold that car. But this one is the cleanest ones I've owned and is a wicked starting point. Got a few more bits ordered for her. I'll post up when they arrive

Re: Geoffs GE Sigma EFI Turbo Build
The only difference in the ECU connections is the A2 connection on the automatic ECU goes to the Park/Neutral switch, then to earth, but on the manual it goes straight to earth.TUFSIG wrote:and dave im 90% sure that manual and auto computers are diff
I don't know if the programming is any different but I would doubt it.
Re: Geoffs GE Sigma EFI Turbo Build
The reason I ask is.... say someone wanted to do a EFI conversion to their 2.6, the easiest way would be to buy a complete and running Magna. Then you strip out everything you need, head (if needed), manifold, sensors, wirting harness etc... and splice the 2 wiring harnesses together.
So using this method, I was wondering whether you'd aim to buy a manual or automatic Magna to start with? If Superscan811 is correct in his last post then the answer would be you could use either. So this leads to my next question.
Do Magna's have sensors or wiring of any kind that hook up to the gearbox (not including the inhibitor switch)? The sorts of sensors/wiring I mean is for things like emissions. I have heard of some cars that have different levels of emission controls for different gears they are in? I don't know if Magna's had this feature or not.
Sorry to hi-jack the thread...

I would at a parts store thats why i got it cheap, but you can get them from any of your normal repco/bursons stores, they will have to order them in though, not something they keep on the shelf obviously lol. Or they sell them on ebay for i think $39, just search balance shaft elimination kit

I will be watching this build closely, it is similar to what I have planned, but minus the turbo.

Re: Geoffs GE Sigma EFI Turbo Build
yeah. that balance shafts are weighty things. removing them helps the engine rev better and and lighter. i did mine on the GJ scorp i had, but i injected it at the same time, so cant tell you of the difference. i've heard around 2 or 3 KWs and revs easier. kinda like a lightened flywheel, but you supposedly get a little more vibration. which again, i didn't notice.

Latest piece of the puzzle, just a cheap one for the moment, want to see how this goes first and then possibly upgrade to a larger better quality unit down the track. - $350

Have you thought of a custom number plate at all? I was thinking it would be tricky if ya plate was OFF. As in GE OFF, lol

Not 100% sure yet mate. Something mild nothing too crazy. Trying to work out compression ratios and what not. All suggestions welcome. The more advice the better!!

i've ran 14psi on a 2.0L with standard pistons and shot peened rods. jet was running 19psi with unknown internals. . the engines are pretty strong and can take a beatnig if tuned right and looked after. .
