I just spent about a hour reading this whole thread, awesome job.
Re: tubbys GN panel van project
OMFG! The panel van conversion is wild. It's the most humane thing I've ever seen done to a pedestrian shopping bus. Add beats, a hot night and some coastal roads...
Re: tubbys GN panel van project
Well. I think I may have had one of the worst previous owners, apparently silastic fixes everything...... wtf. sealing all of your coolant hoses with silastic is not a good idea folks, I have rust causing silastic running through my engine
as well as the cracked intake that had a aluminum plate screwed and silasticed to fix it
I recently bought a weber carby off another member which was f.....ed but it came on an intake which I didn't realize I needed at the time so all good. This is what I have done lately, light truck battery installed. Extractors installed. Intake cleaned and changed. New fuel pump. New coolant hoses. Wiring cleaned up a bit. Along the way I had misplaced my carby mounting studs (by way of a naughty staffy) so I bought a "universal carburettor mounting studs"..... they didn't fit
So I get all this crap done and my starter motor has stopped working. could have been the buckets of degreaser. can you get replacement solenoids?

OMG I have been soooooooooooooooooo slack. THIS may answer a few questions about my current progress, mofos'

but seriously runs way too hot (3/4 of temp gauge) and steering is average at best (poor alignment rack shot, someone has lifted the front end with a forklift at some stage. the usual) but I be rollin' in it anyhoo S-G sticker on the back window. Represent

Yeah, it was this weekend but it didn't get a lot of interest.
I think GB_BB4C has settled on the 18th no matter how many people are coming, lol.

Re: tubbys GN panel van project
Went to U-pull on saturday got a stock fan and stock shroud to see if the poorly installed thermo was the problem with my running too hot engine, fitted that all up and no change in temperature
I still had one avenue to pursue.
well they often say the simplest explanation is often the right one. I was on chat the other day pondering the fact that I had swapped intake manifolds during my build and that the other temp sensor in the older intake might be different......

completely different, well took it for a ten minute drive after the swap and It runs at 1/3 of the temp gauge so I will fang around in it and keep an eye on it but seems all good for now
Also chucked a fresh piece of cardboard under it over night to check for oil leaks etc. no spots, tops

yep thats the block (for those of you who dont know it should be IN the car in the background) had some issues now its out for a complete rebuild

a bit of a carbon deposit

less of a carbon deposit + lapped valves + stem seals changed
also the air con was busted, so thats been ripped out whilst I was there

Re: tubbys GN panel van project
i thought the 245's and 65's were an aussie engine only (although the US support alot of EFI gear for the slant 225)
I think for a good retrotech Chrysler build, (particularly in a Galant) a lil Chrysler Neon twin-cam 2L would suit. (or if u wanna be real cheeky, the US spec ran a 2.4L unit)
it would be chryslers answer to the 4G63 IMO
Just my opinion...nothing more

yea? good point. i just think a 265 in a gb would be nuts! of coarse with the right gear.
p.s. what's "imo" mean? ive seen you guys say it alot.
cheers,
mick

265's in a Galant would be awesome....but lets face it....it aint gonna fit (properly anyway) lol

*cough* sledge hammer *cough* lol. it'd just be a toy. skids, track and drag. if it'd pass. obviously id do it tidy. possibly a cut and shut on the fire wall. make the trans tunnel bigger for a 904 or keep it standqard and go for a w58. gq patrol diff. coil overs and $10 000!!!265's in a Galant would be awesome....but lets face it....it aint gonna fit (properly anyway) lol

Re: tubbys GN panel van project
There are a few with 6 cyl Hemis in them, there is a GC wagon not far from me that was a drag car running a 245. Not a real problem, slight massage and chuck the radiator on the outside.
904 would come close to fitting if you started with a auto shell.
However, IMHO any such use is a waste of a rapidly declining resource

Re: tubbys GN panel van project
I had no problem with using a T904 in my GD wagon - just a modded gearbox cross member, a tail shaft and the shifter out of the Scorpion with a cut and shut selector rod. It was an auto shell to start off with and the T904 didn't make contact with the underside of the Galant anywhere.

Re: tubbys GN panel van project
good point. silly me of thinking of wrecking a perfect galant!
lol. nah if a came across a fairly rooted one. with the quarters salvaged and all. id do fibreglass panels. the throw a 265 in it!
but. thats just a dream. i'll stick with the good ol' 1600 for now

Re: tubbys GN panel van project
Im thinking if i get a chrysler, i might get a Neon engine, maybe an engine out of a voyager...or even a PT Cruiser (i think they are all the same engine from memory)......or.....i can just go all out and drop in a 6.1L Hemi V8 out of a 300C
mmmmm a factory EFI V8 Galant wagon, whipple blower, lenco four speed, tubbed 9" rear end.......i better stop there i think....getting out of control already lol

the van is in the process of being resurrected. a new engine has gone in (pics when i can be arsed)
i got sick of the skull, i was never was a fan to start with but it was easy. i had this in mind from the start but not the skills/tools/enthusiasm/time to execute it properly this i admit is far from perfect but i am happy with it for now
this is what a days work looks like teaching myself airbrushing
