Beefing up a Sigma

Hey guys

Got an '84 Mitsi Sigma SE, 2L SOHC Carby, 4g63 RWD. 5 spd manual box.
This year I'll probably start considering doing some engine work on it as I've just forked out for a panel and paint to get all the rust out and straighten the few dents it had up, so may as well keep the darn thing.
Was thinking either evo/vr4 engine, or, a v8 of some sort.

BUT, how much work can these standard 4g63 carby engines take?
Are there cheap-ish mods you can do to them to squeeze out a bit of power?
Is there a super charger kit that bolt on or are easily modified to fit?(I heard some toyota ones can?) and are the engines strong enough to with stand that?(low boost).
Bigger twin carbs?
Also heard there are gilmour belt kits for the 4g63 sohcer to give it a nice whine?

Anyone that's worked these N/A engines please let me know a bit more info only used to 4g93/63t's

Also, what turbo engines will bolt straight into my sigma? Or with slight modification to engine mounts etc but no firewall hacking or anything

Strap some extractors to it and open up the exhaust ...you should notice a difference...shouldnt cost you too much either really....depends what your budget is? You could always look for a set of side draft carbies for it really just depends how much you wanna spend...unfortunately its not free to get power.. ... are you sure its a 4g63 and not a 4g52 ANCHORTRON?

In New Zealand the 4g63 is a common motor in a Sigma.

I would think that extractors and a nice exhaust will make a difference.
Twin carbs is an option but I think the cost and tuning would be about the same as EFi but far more limited.
You can grab the EFi system from a HH or HJ SOHC Galant or a Hyundai Sonata they also use the SOHC 4g63's
Next step would be a turbo kit from a Starion or a Scorpion
Then the ultimate would be VR4 or EVO head on tour bottom end, if you go this way to sky is the limit.
The 4G63 is a very adaptable engine with many options for modification, how far you go really depends on your budget.

And yep, definitely a 4g63 in it.
Budget... not really too sure at the moment, was more looking at doing an engine mod here and there every few weeks or months or so as I've got mates that can fabricate practically anything it's just when they get time etc.

So, firstly, you reckon a nice set of extractors and an exhaust would prove to increase the power so much so that I'll be able to notice it?
On a 2L carby, what sort of exhaust size works best? 2"? 2 1/4"? Surely not any bigger? And any special setup for the extractors? Or just some nice even length ones with decent flow?

So, putting an evo or vr4 head on the block, the block would be strong enough? Or would the block definitely need some forging?
And with the evo/vr head all I'd need to do it run the evo/vr loom, get an external or internal fuel pump, and that's it?

Buy this and chuck it in. $1500 is a bargain and it comes with loom, ecu and afm. It will bolt to your gearbox, it will sit on your engine mounts, it will use your current radiator hoses. All you should need to buy is a fuel pum, make some cooler hoses to suit your car and get the exhaust fabricated. It even had a little intercooler. Hell it even has a warranty.
Mate, if we could buy DOHC Turbo 4G63's here for $1500 ready to bolt in every car on this forum would be running one, well except Dave and Tandanas they love their 32's

I'm guessing it's a 4g63-t for the $1500 price? And it'll bolt to my gbox? And engine mounts?? I thought evo/vr engines wouldn't fit on the mount and gearbox because they were a wideblock version of my 4g63 block or something along those lines?

Sounds perfect though, very keen to have a look at it just need to sort funds ;) LOL

I think your best bet would be to start with a Galant EFi set up and go from there. If you start with exhaust you will need to change it if you go turbo later, so a waste of money.
The EFi set up should gain you 20-30kw and a good bit of torque. You will notice the difference.

Oh shoot so a evo/vr/rvr engine won't bolt to my KW132 5spd Jap gearbox? Daaaamn.
Ok, with the Galant EFI set up, you're not talking about a complete engine swap right? Will the inlet manifold bolt to my head?
What do you need exactly for an EFI setup, and what will / won't bolt up etc etc.
Only conversion stuff I've done was a gsr engine going into a non-turbo NZ new lancer glxi station wagon a few years back and that was complete engine swap and loom etc, I've got no experience injecting a carby engine
