Another head question thats probly been asked 1000 times!!!

Alrighty, as some may know, ill probly be gettin an M2 head at the end of the week.
This will be replacing the Astron 1 head thats on my car now.
I was wondering if there are any differences between these two heads?
And what these differences are? (eg; port/valve sizes, etc??)
And weather these differences will make any difference to performance (better, worse, no difference???)

And one other quick question, what fuel do you guys run? Eg, ULP, 95, 98? And do you use the lead replacement additive?
The head ill be getting is supposedly brand new, so should it have hardened valve seals so it can easily run on ULP?
I think thats all the questions i have, for now!!

Cheers Matt.

Not sure about the new head verses old performance wise but you don't need to use a lead replacement with alloy heads.
I run mine on 98 or 100 when I can find it.

Awesome, thanks mate!

Also, just thought of another question, whats the comp ratio on a stock 2.6 Astron 1?

Ok, one more thing!!
Will shaving the head be any benefit on a totally stock engine?
If so, what will they be?
And on average, how much does it cost to shave it?

With stock inlet and outlet manifolds, stock carby and stock dizzy shaving would make no real difference.
It would pay to get it faced before installing it, just for piece of mind

Compression is going to be shite.
Stock Astron I - 8.2:1
Stock Astron II - 9.2:1 (someone confirm)

I'm getting the intake manifold with it, so all Good there!
This will probly just show how mechanically stupid I am, but I thought old cars mostly had high comp due to the super fuel, and I thought shaving the head would up the comp a bit more, therefore making it run better on 98 fuel, which i heard somewhere u should use cos super had an octane rating of 97.

Astron I have dished piston's
Astron II have flat top's

An Astron II head with (Astron I) dished piston's will be awsome for boosted application's, but will have a comp ratio of approx 7.7:1

That's a pretty effin low comp ratio!
Will that make it even slower than it already is?

Yes, will be slower.

Choices/options:
Change piston's
Get a Aston I head
Get an Aston II block
Add a form of boost (tubo/super charger)

Spewin big time!
I like option 4.
But option 1 is probly goin to be cheapest.
I'm getting pistons with the head, hopefully they are flat tops!

Will that Atleast bring it back to stock comp?
What's a good comp for stock engine?
STD? Or higher?
What exactly does high comp achieve?

So.....IF I was to turbo it, what would I need exactly and how much would it cost?
Using second hand parts and carby fed.
