1979 Datsun Scorpion

Got bored and bought a $250 GH scorpion that had been sitting for a few years because a fuel pump died.

Image

Got it back to the workshop and popped the bonnet, discovered this thing sitting there.

Image

Got to work clearing the scum out of the engine bay

Image

Comparison shot.

Image

Quick forklift job and a new anchor is fitted.

Image

All the panels fit back where they were with no cutting required.

Image

Not bad for a days work.

Image

Need to fit up a radiator and an intercooler, do some engine mounts, cut a hole for the shifter and make a tailshaft. Then it is wiring and new fuel and brake lines on the opposite sides of the car and away I skid.

I heart my Datsun.

Just because it is rare, doesn't mean it will ever be worth money.

I could build another one out of scrap steel and bog if that helps?

Lol.

Well they've already done it to just about all the 1600's and Z's so they got to find something else to destroy.

1600s and zeds are worth actual money. Nobody(TUFSIG excluded) pays money for a sigma, mostly because sigma people wont even pay money for a sigma.

Couldn't give the astron and 5 speed away so it went into a metal bin.

Exactly, Nath. They have killed any good Datsuns and Toyota and now good '70s cars are worth good money. They will now turn their attention to Mitsubishi and improve the market for true vehicle enthusiasts.

Yeah the ones that haven't been hacked at.

Why do you think they are worth "actual" money?
I bought a very tidy 1600 in 1992 for $600. They are worth money now because people abused them and most ended up in the scrap heap.
This is why I encourage people like you to do the same to Mitsubishis :D

i think if people only put motors that are supposed to be in cars then the modified car scene would be quite boring, Jason honestly it has way to much bog to be used for anything else

The way I see it, I saved this bucket from a scrap metal yard and am giving it a new lease on life.

Would you rather see it being used on track, rubbing panels with other cars. Or would you rather see it sitting on top of a pile at sims, waiting to be turned into a Great Wall?

I get what you are saying but don't have to agree or like it :P
Pretty sure sell of the parts from the Scorpion would have made enough money to buy a S13 shell.
Would have made a much better car and no one would care.

I have an S13 and 2 cefiros. Those are pretty boring and don't cause anywhere near as much hate when you do awful things to them.

I can't see there being anything of value on this scorpion, I probably couldn't buy lunch let alone an s13 for what I would make out of it.

I love how people think old Mitsu's are going to be worth money. Remember how Korea had a really shit name for making terrible, unreliable cars? Japan used to have that name but then had manufacturers come out and improve on that.
Mitsubishi were the shit ones. Nissan/Datsun and Toyota are examples of why the Japanese car market started getting a better reputation.

Single make groupies are hilarious, really don't like reading the truth.

I approve of this product and/or service and look forward to more updates.

I get that, I guess it is the lack of respect that is my problem.

"I saved this bucket"
"discovered this thing sitting there"
"clearing the scum out of the engine bay"

If I had the same attitude on a Datsun site I would have been hung.
Maybe take the build to SAU where other like minded tractor lovers can enjoy your work.

I agree if you are talking about 1930. '60s and '70s Japanese vehicle are some of the best in the world
I have owned all sorts of cars and am far from a one make groupy but I do respect classics and those that will be one day.

Your idea that old school Mitsu's will for ever be cheap is the same attitude people in the '80s had about Chargers and GT Falcons, it is the same attitude people had in the '90s about Datsuns and Toyotas.
Mitsubishi's time will come.
All of this is however irrelevant as none of my collection will ever be for sale (H)

To be honest I'm not even judging Mitsubishi in my statements - more you as a person. Most people that see something like this get behind it because it is something that is so different, particularly for a car that was heading toward a scrapyard.
Let your hair down a little bit mate, the world isn't a harsh place and no one is here to judge your Mitsubishi-inspired masturbation.

Poor fella. :(

Out of curiosity, how old is your house? Am I right in saying that it was built prior to 1980?

I'm guessing you've always had a love for old metal, or odd ball cars. You probably have a number of projects going at any one time, mostly restos.
I'm going to wager that you also have an older girl that isn't quite as old or far gone just to keep you going. Something that you'd cruise in or hit the hills with.

I'd be thinking your daily would be something odd ball as well, like a Citroen or a Renault or something.

There is a difference between social profiling and reading someones FB page or scanning through posts on here.
Fail
