went to wreckers yesterday found few interior things i needed
centre console lid
2x non cracked black dash covers (score)
both the ones i had from gsr and spare huge crack in the middle
few spare door handles, the driver and passenger ones feel a bit funny atm.
another blue glovebox, another standard gear knob, and few other bits and pieces

also one of the central locking things stuffed up, so got a new set of 4,
and few fusion speakers to put in. just for now.
be nice to have a bit more music in it :)

Image

just some 6 by 9's and some lil 4 inches to fit under the dash
but think the magnets are to big to fit in there
but will check it out.

this way we can get new hoses made up without disturbing the good one atm

also found a few half ok guards for my gh
and new bonnet, boot lid and passenger door
jackpot ahhahaa

so pretty much broke right now :(

After breaking the high pressure hose from the pump to the box, I had PIRTEK make me a custom hose using 2000psi fittings, problem solved. :)
I'm here for a good time, not a long time !

Installed like this to prevent the fitting fracturing again.

Ok so dad had a hunch that the heater wasnt to good in the GSR
ie:funny smell, and fogging up windows all the time.
Good call dad lol
guess it had been leaking for awhile..
Image
Image
Image
Image
only swiss cheese holding it together, preventing it from burning my leg while driving

What a shit of a job taken apart everything yuck lol
but while was in there, replaced all globes etc
like heater controls, lighter, ash tray etc
refoamed all the heater and vent etc so they seal properly
old foam was breaking down. cleaned all the years of dust in the
venting etc. gave the carpet under heater a good Garnier Fuctus shampoo
Image
Image

and this shit of a job, was made harder by wanting to
put new speakers in the dash, still trying to work out how to fit
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol
almost back together after lots of swearing and anger later lol
also replaced the oldschool red LED on the alarm, too a bright Blue LED
looks better at night.

update,
got an magna head the other day
asked for one of a tr/ts
but ended up with a m4 head

which we confirmed at wreckers yesterday is of the earlier magnas
tn/tp i think, cos most of the tr/ ts had m6 or m7 by the look of it

another annoying thing is prob cant swap it over for what i want
cos already swapped it twice. :( anyone want a m4?

the other week got the extra piping for the
power steering which was missing from mine
cleaned it up painted it and the brackets etc.
Image

took the starter motor, and alternator out of the spare gsr
both looked in ok condition, as think maybe the one in the 85 got missing teeth
or something slips sometimes wen starting
so cleaned up, also cleaned up the magna rocker cover too
Image
Image
thinking of maybe getting painted red, to match the pod filter and the red badges, pinstripes etc
Image
Image
Image
also new power steering hoses being made up ready tomoz
and getting the spare power sterring pump rebuilt
and the steering box has been done already
when done will put the new hoses, rebuilt pump, new belt
and the missing extra cooling piping
and really hope that fixes my steering probs

also gave the bottom of engine a degrase and clean
needed it badly prob about 10kgs lighter now lol :P

Re: 1985 GK GSR Project

Post by 81GH »

bit of an update
havent done one in awhile
ok so still have a vibration in the back end at about 100kms
suspect tailshaft
It has new unis innit when did the diff swap over
still something weird there

after getting a quote for 500 bucks to balance a tail shaft
for F&$k sake theres two weight on it, $500 job my ass
i thought fark that
thought try the tailshaft out the spare sig pig

filthy scrag isn't it
Image

thought clean it up and paint red to match the red springs, shocks and shelby swaybar
Image

But then realised it has old unis innit
and would have to be changed
and will fark up the duco chuzz

then found out that if turn it 180 degrees where it bolts on at the back
may fix the problem, havnt tried yet, but if does will paint red too.
im hoping it will fix it

umm
took gear box out spare sig pig
but was an easy job made hard cos car is sitting like this
Image

when we finally got it out
we found even more filthy scrag treasure
Image
took too high pressure car wash still didnt get the filth off
did rest by hand
half day and 4 cans of degreaser looked like this
Image
then found out from the gearbox place didnt need to clean it
:wut: hmmmmmmm Sigh. lol

Spare power steering pump had been rebuilt
and ready to go in
Image

a comparison
Image
Image

the dirty one was the one in the car and the one painted black is rebuilt one we got from wreckers
looks like a smaller pump which culd be a problem :(
but had a better bracket set up
so easy to adjust the belt just like adjusting a fan belt.
but the old bracket was farked had to unbolt the whole bracket to adjust
and couldnt take pump off the bracket with out unbolting from engine first
so thats one plus.

whacked the new hoses, new power steering belt
the rebuilt pump and better bracket for easier adjustment, and
put the missing extra cooling piping back on.
Image
suprised me actually
how quickly and how hot that extra cooling piping for
the power steering, and after all that still not returning
to centre like a hoe. :@

and recieved modified plenum back on friday
really not happy with it
they had problems welding it
cos what ever magna the wreckers pulled it off
had been sucking oil in for years
and oil has all soaked into the alloy
so is messy and hideous
and now cant take it back that its been modified
so prob have to buy another farking one
and the price of the thing wasnt cheap either

nightmare after nightmare
disapointment after disapointment
but will get there one farking day 8o|

This is what i meant by the plenum bein a little untidy
Image

but while was at work today dad tidy it up
came up really well i reckon
Thanks Dad ahhaha, did a good job
Image

pick up the rebuilt gear box we pulled out the spare sometime mid this week hopefully
then just waiting on the radiator

then engine will get some attention and EFI conversion etc.
as for the steering problem should get that fixed first
but its a pain in the ass so do it at later stage.

Image
Image

Still hope it has a nice note, with EFI (H)
just gonna use the magna loom and magna computer
for now see how she goes.........and go from there
really wanted to get a short shiftah too, but will have to get
at later stage, think gonna run short of dosh if do that,
but all in good time. :)
