Re: My GC Coupe build

Post by A112H »

Yeah it's a mess but I have no intention of doing anything to it but ripping out the engine, gearbox and associated wiring. The sheel is going to the tip ASAP.
I am considering keeping the seats, they are fucked but mine need recovering anyway so these wouldn't cost that much more and I love the look of them. Besides you can't get the original coupe fabric anyway.
I will be rebuilding the engine top to bottom once the paint work is finished. But I want to get it in and running ASAP so any cutting, grinding, welding and drilling can be sorted before paint.
I have a question ........... Does anyone know how the Starion gearbox lines up?? Are they like the long or short Sigma ones??

they look identical to the Gn wideblock jap 5 speed i have in my LA. the Gn box has a long extension housing so the tailshaft needs shortening slightly.

If you are going to scrap the Starion once you get the parts you want, are you willing to part with the front struts before you do that? Also, if there are any more decent parts on the car, you could sell them off on AuStarions or similar forum and recoup some of the cost.

Oh yeah, I will be selling the tail lights, both rust and dent free doors, tail gate, rear diff and assembly. If you are interested in the struts PM me.

Yeah me too, but thats cool I am pretty sure they are interchangable and it gives me an excuse for new gaskets and oil for the gearbox if I have to split it and put the shorter one on, lol

So I have started to strip the Starion and need some advice as follows

1, How much effort (cutting rails and stuff) to fit the front seats?
2, Anyone wanna buy the leather rear seats?
3, How hard is it to fit the Starion clutch pedal?
4, Anyone want any other parts? ( I have a complete car minus front struts & brakes, engine and gearbox, front seats, outer bonnet vents)
I think thats it, I have a fair idea of what else I wanna use but if you want parts just ask
It is a 1984 JA red with Cream/beige leather

Got my JDM tail lights from Shuggy yesterday and have spent this evening cleaning them up and having a good look, I have found some interesting points.

They share the backing plates with the local models, so the only difference is the lenses and outer cover
See the lights I bought were in an expected condition for the age but the main bodies were in very poor condition, so it has worked out very well that I can clean up the JDM lenses and fit them to my local bodies which are perfect.
Once I get the outers fixed up and re chromed and painted up and they will be good as new.

Pics tomorrow, too cold out now :P

Found this sweet key ring, brand new in a second hand shop today. $15 .............. BARGAIN

Image

This is going to be my new paint/stripe work. Going all white, still keeping the red high lights I have posted pics of before but I am going to run this stripe along to the front wheel just to break up the white a bit.

What do you guys think??

This pic shows the JDM lenses on the local backing, as you can see the backing is the same part and the lenses fit up perfectly.

Razor blade.
That's what you need.
If you use a razor blade and gently cut between the sticker and the glass (well cutting motion anyway), you will get it. But if you pull it in anyway you will distort it.

I've removed stickers from car that are 2 years old and been able to reuse them. But, the cheaper the vinyl they are printed on, the less success you will have. Generally, printed stickers are of poorer quality then cut vinyl stickers.

Fair call Nick, it has been a while.
Okay, so I have the engine and box out of the Starion and yes it will be turbo. I am going for L300 MPI induction, after market manifold and maybe a TD05 turbo. I am shooting for about 160rwkw. I have just bought a R31 LSD disc brake diff to be shortened so should be cool with the power.
I have had a thought of running the super uber cool Starion front buckets in the front and using the stock buckets in the rear to make it a 4 seater, all trimmed alike of course, any thoughts?
I have chopped my bonnet to fit up the Starion bonnet vents, I only got one fitted but what do you think?

Might be................. ATM I am trying to sell what I can from the Stazza that I dont need and recoup what I can.
I was thinking about DOHC but in the long run the max power I will ever need is 170ish rwkw and I do not need DOHC for that.
What I really need is for someone to wanna swap a L300 intake and stuff for am old Stazza shell. lol
Outside of that happening I am keen to swap and change what I can.
