GE Scorpion Budget Build

Hey, thought it was about time I made a build thread for my Scorpion.

This being a first car and first project, I have plenty of time, not much money and some borrowed tools.


Progress so far...
Changed oil, filter, air filter and fuel filter.
New Alternator bearings (Old ones packed up first week I had the car )
Wiring hell sorted out, auto elec had cut the reverse light wires and soldered them to the trailer plug, inbuilt regulator alternator had been wired in and exposed terminals left to short out.
Started fixing tacho.
Mastercylinder was leaking, new one fitted and brake booster painted.
Few items cleaned up and painted in engine bay, battery tray has rusted out so I might make a new one out of checker plate but for now plenty of kill rust and gloss black paint will do.

New Windscreen fitted by Protector Autoglass Warragul, the only place nearby that was happy/able to source this glass. No rust behind original windscreen. Unfortunately the clips for the windscreen moulding got broken so that has had to be glued in place

Quarter panels removed to fix rust.

I will update as soon as I make some (slow) progress, all this poor weather keeps ruining my plans.

Notoriously bad design at the bottom of the front guards for both Scorp and Sigma..as far as trapped dirt/debris leading to serious rust issues , unfortunately.

I have made some progress. I have rebuilt the front end, new ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman arm, front brake pads etc. I had originally only planned to change the coolant and thermostat but things sort of escalated from there. I found a split radiator hose and that the nipple it attaches too on the water pump had almost completely corroded off, so figured while I have the cooling system drained and I have to order the parts in I might as well just order all the parts I need and do it all at once. I have also pulled the motor and gearbox and have changed the front and rear engine oil seals and sump gasket, also changed the intake and carby gasket as the coolant had eaten away at them as no sealer was used the last time they were changed, replaced the input and output gearbox oil seals. While the engine was out I discovered that the leaky master cylinder had been leaking brake fluid down the firewall and onto the right hand chassis rail which it ran down, stripping all the paint and soundproofing, causing surface rust. I also discovered that the gearbox is leaking from the extension housing gasket and pan gasket. It does not appear to be leaking much so I will just clean up the box and put it back. Also changed the brown shifter bushing with a new ebay one and the white one with a genuine Mitsubishi bushing.





The plan now is to finish sanding and then paint the engine bay, take car of the rust in the bottom of the guards, pillars and passenger door, change the axle oil seals and rear brake pads then put it all back together and get it registered. While the box and engine are out I would like to do something about the sound proofing that has been softened by the gearbox oil. After that the plan will be to rub it back, sort out all the body work dents etc, and respray it. Also, does anyone on here know where to get a rear windscreen seal or where to get one made? My car has a little bit of rust starting under the rear windscreen near the pillar vent and I don't think the existing rubber will survive being pulled off and put back on.

Hey Sigmaproject, do the later Sigmas have the same issues? or is it just the Scorpions and GE/GH Sigmas?

Anyways, that's it for now, gotta get back to sanding

It's all of them, I've got a couple of GJ Scorpions with rust issues down there.
The other spot you'll have to watch out for is around the rear window, my all four of the Scorpions I have (GE, GH and two GJs) have a bit there.
