And having a close ratio is a good thing , meeans I can run decent size wheels and with the right diff ratio it should be a good thing
Anyway time to do some work

So I pulled the engine and gbox out, so I can sort out the clutch slave cylinder set up
And a few other things , so far I have spent 100 hours in labor lucky im not paying for that
Anyway heres some happy snaps of the difference between a KM 132 and a triton V6 two wheel drive

Km 132 weighs 33kg , V6 weighs 55 kg , a bit more heavy duty

Re: little hulk
And hugely expensive to repair. Had a carpenter mate that had a Triton 2WD trayback that had gearbox issues. Cost him 4 grand..and that was 15 years ago.
Re: little hulk
Yeah its a big gbox
And i didnt think it was expensive to buy, but it did cost more than most people would spend
This week it's getting a rebuild, was quoted $1250 with 60 thousand kay warranty, again quite reasonable I thought !

4 Grand is what the dealer charged him to supply and fit the new transmission.
Re: little hulk
I have had a good think about that jimmy
And so far the only thing I can think off is the steering box, idler and pitman arm are still standard and untouched
For now !
Other than that all modified in some way or another
Disgraceful isn't it

I picked up the gbox this morning, took way longer than expected
Now I need to chase up a flywheel and clutch , so I can work out the slave cylinder and master cylinder /pedal set up , then I can finish the collector for the pipes , also started the pipes for the other side, which should be opposite of what I already made
And I need a tailshaft yoke

So I thought I better repair the sump
First up cut a little fabrication hole and go
!

So got a bit of work to do now, im hoping to add to the capacity of the sump as well as having to make it fit my application

All good, let they nay sayers say what they want.
I'm watching this (have been from the start), I'm a bit disappointed that not many comment on your build.

Re: little hulk
As above, I view this every time there's an update, it's a good build and I look forward to seeing progress I just don't want spam the thread with "looking good" every time you post something. I'm sure others are the same.

Re: little hulk
its the same as my V8 build thread, I think extreme projects lack questions because the average SG modifier is more interested in simple/moderate mods, that not to say they don't appreciate the level of skill/work that goes into these types of buildsstealth wrote:Im also surprised a bit

Re: little hulk
I think ur tight there......fewer people relate to an extreme build as opposed to a neat and tidy Sunday cruiser

Re: little hulk
Fair enough guys !
There is a bit involved in this conversion , but its only a sunday cruiser / daily driver , once finished !
One that note spent quite a few hours on it last night and today , making a new lower half out of several pieces of .6mm sheet hand forming all the pieces old school with a hammer ,dolly ,shot bag, bead roller and English wheel
Needless to say this is very time consuming but the only way to make something that looks Oem and kike its meant to be there
So no pics yet I will wait till it looks like something

Ive been glued to the build from the start. Very very much enjoying it.
As for facebook. I never joined but are well aware of its reputation as a troll nest. I would not loose any sleep over it.

As one of the background stalkers on the site, soaking up information, it's looking good man, love the green. Just wondering what you're try to achieve with the sump mods, is it a clearance thing or are you just not happy with the design? What makes a good sump?
RWD Mitsubishi - Love the unloved
Re: little hulk
My guess the goals would be: First, clear the cross member (stock sump made to fit a car with different cross member location). Insure good oil control around the oil pump pickup to stop serge under high G-loading. Add extra oil capacity to reduce the oil degradation rate due to the heat load a high performance turbo motor adds. I may be wrong though.

Re: little hulk
Spot on jimmy
Mitsubishi are renowned for bad oil control and lack of oil
So thought I'd better fix the issues now , and I needed to clear the crossmember and steering
As ive said im using .6mm sheet , for better heat transfer and light weight, not so easy to fab and weld ! And I would like it to hold 7lts or more without looking out of place in the engine bay
And yes there's going to be some extreme baffling , and a deflector for the oil relief and some dash 8 fittings
I also shortened the dipstick tube to put the oil level clear of the crank ,it was 20mm above the cranks whip area , nice one mitsubishi
So anyway heres a sneak peak of the first mock up in the engine bay , taken from passenger side under the front

All hand made , and nowhere near finished
Cheers stealth

Re: little hulk
So work continues on the sump , i was trial fitting it the the car again and had a thought
How much does a std 4g33 or 4g32 weigh
I have weighed one before but I cant find where I wrote it down ?
So does anyone know or have one thay could weigh for me
I know that a astron long motor complete weighs 148 kgs
Cheers stealth

I will be able to weigh mine in the new year when the sigma turbo goes in
I've got a 52 complete but no way to weigh it though

Re: little hulk
Cool , I got crane scales so I will have to help you get it out and the newy in a !
Then we can weigh both , complete
And get some numbers , I think a few people would be interested , I got a complete 54 as well and a couple of evo engines and the v6
As well , then we can put the "heavy " front argument to bed
Cheers stealth

Re: little hulk
I'm sure I read somewhere on this forum 113kg for a 4g32, so if the Astron long motor was 148kg I guess that sounds about right?
Re: little hulk
Yeah I got a feeling a 4g32 is 115kgs but not sure if thats complete fan to flywheel, but only time will tell
So the sump is finished, while its baking after paint I finish welding the drivers side engine mount , I also cut the triangle into it so I can do up the mount nut , gives me room to do it up in place

So I will get that powder coated as its ready for use another piece of the puzzle done , I will get the sump back on and sort the other mount and engine back in and make a start on water in and out and the clutch slave / clutch fork issue
Cheers stealth

Re: little hulk
Well there you go ! 142 kgs for a 4g32
So a astron is not that much heavier
But just proves that the old technology is crap compared to new !
A 4g63bt complete at 156 kgs is a couple of kgs less that a non turbo astron and 90 odd kws compared to 185kws
Then in my case the v6 is 2500 (less than a stron) weighs way less ! So far 112.5 kgs with pipes, big sump , engine mounts, starter motor , alt
But no intake yet , but again nearly 20kgs lighter than a factory fitted unit
And thats the extra 20kgs in the gbox
Soo that means im very close to the factory weight but way lower roll center
And it should make at least 130kws stock, will have a better rev range
Everything is coming up Millhouse !
