Hi, we are from George in the Western Cape, South Africa.
My son Bevan has just bought a 1977 Colt GS which needs some serious restoration. We are working on it most of our spare time.
Vin No.: KG4ZH2303147
Eng. No. 2E84551
4G32 engine - 1597 cc with two Solex/Mikuni carbs.
Needs a respray and some rusted panels replaced.
Also needs seats to be redone.
The driver's side window winder gear was stripped. Managed to have a new one laser cut and put bushings in the pinion.
Window winds up and down fine now but slips down when you push it by hand. Does anyone have any experience with the window winder mechanism?
Engine is running but needs a service and tune-up. Was running very rough, difficult to start and blowing back through the carbs. Ignition timing was way out (about 30 degrees ATDC - we now set it at 5 degrees BTDC and she's running much smoother with no blow back)
Carbs are also out of sync. Any tips on the carb setup will be most welcome.
Would also like to replace the timing chain as we don't know when last that was done. Don't know where to get a spare though.
Also needs the radiator to be re-cored.
I used to rally with a Colt GS in 1973 and 1974 and they are really awesome very solid cars.
Would like to post some pics of the car and the restoration progress as we go along. Also have some pics and press clippings from 1973 & 1974.
not too sure how to post pics just yet.
