Hey all
Hey all
Gday, my name is Billy (kinda obvious) and im new to not only this forum but also to the world of chrysler/mitsubishi.
I own a 1976 GD galant 4 door, bought about 6 months ago with the intention of doing a resto and maybe an astron engine conversion. be afraid, be very afraid, as i'll be asking plenty of questions in the future.
I'll upload some pictures when i get them. great to be on board.
Thanks, Billy.

Re: Hey all
Welcome mate.
Bring on the questions...
But have a good search of the site. Use the search at the top right of the screen, It's really useful.
And yes pics will be needed, as well as plans for the rebuild...
Where are you located BTW?
Dave...

Re: Hey all
Welcome Billy,
Good to have another member from SA. We seem to have a pretty good stock of parts around the state so let us know if you need anything, even if it is just advice.
Looking forward to some pics

Re: Hey all
Heres a few photos for those interested. since these pics were taken, these things have been removed:
Bumpers, Rear light garnish and grill, windscreens, badges, vinyl roof, door mouldings, windscreen wipers. theres probably more but i cant recall it all right now. im heading to a panel beater/painter tomorrow arvo to have a bit of a chat and work some stuff out so the prep process can begin!if anybody has any advice RE sanding the thing it would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Billy.

Re: Hey all
What colour are you going?
Are you keeping the vinyl roof?
I see you car has an import belt drive in it.
That large exhaust manifold has a catalytic converter in it. If you ever wanted to know?
Wet and dry paper used wet is the go.
Start with 240 or 360 grit (depends on how good the existing paint is), if it's bad 240, if it's good 360. You'll know soon enough when you start rubbing.
Rub in the one direction on panels (back and forth not circles). Generally every panel would get rubbed in the front to back of car direction except for the boot, front beaver and rear panel.
All the gloss must be removed. If you still see shiny paint you haven't gone far enough. New paint wont stick to old shiny paint.
Does this help?
Is it what you were after?
Dave...
Can anyone confirm. Which GD Galants came with a brake booster? Did Autos miss out on them, because this one hasn't got one.

Not sure how much help, or exactly what sort of info you need, but here goes:Billy076 wrote:any advice RE sanding the thing it would be much appreciated.

Sorry to hijack thread, but...
PROSSER's auto GD wagon doesn't have a booster either. It's dead stock.

Re: Hey all
The manual GD wagon I bought new in August 1976 did not have a brake booster fitted.
Of the numerous galants I have subsequently owned, only a 77 GD wagon and the hardtops have been fitted with boosters.

Re: Hey all
wow massive amount of replies haha. thanks for the prep advice. its basically exactly what i was looking for haha. yeah im told it had a replacement g32b in it, and from the bit of research ive done it seems to be a belt drive one from possible an LC lancer? correct me if im wrong. and yeah it was on ebay and carsales, i bought it from a bloke in gawler. the whole engine bay doesnt really seem stock to me as theres lots of wires and things which dont look quite right, i'll try and get a few more detailed photos for you guys to check out. and the catalytic converter exhaust manifold ive already played with haha, it seems the cat is just a canister that fits inside that giant hunk of iron. cheers for all your help, if theres any photos or anything you'd like to see just let me know. The vinyl roof is gone, it wont be coming back, and thankfully only one small rust hole in the whole car. im looking at going full gloss black at the moment.
Re: Hey all
Black? Wow, you'd want the body to be nice and straight.Billy076 wrote:im looking at going full gloss black at the moment.
Should look good. What wheels would you be running with it?
Hope you like washing your car too, you'll be doing it a few times to keep it clean...

Re: Hey all
yeah i understand the nuances of a black car lol. not really looking forward to it but i think it'll look amazing. im looking for a silver set of simmons FRs. i understand that simmons as a company has gone broke and is no longer producing them so they might go up a bit in price over the coming months, but i think they will also look really good.
would i be right in saying that its a 114.3X4 stud pattern? whats the offset needed? and also whats the largest diameter that'll fit? with regard to coming on cruises in something other than a galant would anybody have any aversion to me rocking up in my falcon? its modified if that matters haha.
