Re: my 77 galant v6
I buy 4 litres of colour, and 4 litres of clear for a solid (non metallic colour).
I use a bit more clear for metallic.

clear as in reducer? or as in gloss that you put over the topcoat?

Re: my 77 galant v6
reducer I refer to as thinners.75glnt wrote:clear as in reducer? or as in gloss that you put over the topcoat?
Gloss? Yeah I suppose. It's just paint with no tinter in it. You can mix them together no problem at all. That's what I do. It just makes the colour weaker (that's why I do full full colour coats to start).

Re: my 77 galant v6
so if you want 1L of paint with a ratio of 50/50 paint-clear. would you go 250ml of paint, 250ml of clear, and 500ml of reducer? sorry for the confusing question. i just cant see clear working as a reducer?? cheers

Yep, that's it.75glnt wrote:so if you want 1L of paint with a ratio of 50/50 paint-clear. would you go 250ml of paint, 250ml of clear, and 500ml of reducer? sorry for the confusing question. i just cant see clear working as a reducer?? cheers
First I put down 2 coats of 500ml paint, 500ml reducer when I start,
Then I'd use like 450mls of colour, and 50mls of clear (using your example with 500mls of reducer to make 1 litre in the gun) and as I put more coats on I increase the amount of clear, and reduce the colour, so last coat would be 450ml of clear, and 50mls of colour (using your example with 500mls of reducer to make 1 litre in the gun).

Re: my 77 galant v6
Minor Update.
Finally had the chance to get some work done on the galant and do some things i've been wanting to do for a while.
I made a simple trim peice that goes between the radiator support and the grill (not quite finished but just about)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Also got stuck into the car and gave it a cut back and full detail then got a company to come give it a full paint protection to help keep that shine in the car.
The company is based out of Newcastle / Central Coast and are called AutoFanatiks. Would highly recomend them, great job and the car looks a million bucks.

There is another Top Secret Imports night at Eastern Creek this Friday night so i will be heading down to that if anyone else is going....

Re: my 77 galant v6
So the Galant has had a move to a new location......
I've moved in with my girlfriend which means i actually get more garage space in a 2 car garage (sharing with another car) than what i had in my old garage.
I gave the car its first clean in the new place and then took it out for a cruise for dinner.

Re: my 77 galant v6
Well, what was a great relationship with an awesome car has now suddenly ended.
Driving home from work last monday night stopped at a set of traiffic lights i got rear ended (5 car pile up) and the integra was made a write off yesterday.
I got the rims, the wing (now for sale) and a few other little bits and pieces off it before the insurance guys came and got it and this was the state of it when it left me
It doesnt look like much but the lady who hit me was doing around 80k's. She hit me so hard (and i saw it coming) that i bent the steering wheel with hands on impact. The rear floor pan was crumpled, the chassis rails were pushed in at the end plus all the cosmetic damage you can see (plus the front was damaged where i got pushed into another car)

Sad times for me but on the upside i am now on the hunt for something new.

Re: my 77 galant v6
No wagon purchases, and definitely no V6 powered wagons. They aren't legal anymore in Galants. Mine is the one and only V6 powered 70's Galant in NSW (possibly Aus).
Well, I was trying to update this thread last night anyway but for some reason I could not upload photos.
Anyway, what I was going to write with added pictures (which I will try again tomorrow) was;
Long time between updates. After the Integra was written off, I've now purchased a brand new Mazda 2 as my to and from work car. Perfect. Cheap on fuel and allows me to enjoy the galant more on the weekend.
I've had a promotion at work (now the manager for my department which ultimately means i'm responsible for delivering the work to over 500 staff) which means I've been working 55 plus hours a week so not much time to work on the car. Whatever spare time I've had I have been trying to get the car where I want it.
Over the past few weeks/months I have;
- heat wrapped the entire exhaust under the car
- stripped the under side of the dash and pulled out all the air conditioning system
- stripped the front end and engine bay of all the condensers and lines etc for air con
- stripped the interior and ran all electrical in conduit and tidied everything up
- got my gearbox re-built with all new gears along with a short shifter.
- fixed all leaks and niggling engine issues I've had for a while
- scored & installed some late 70's NOS japanese Fog Lights in the normal highbeam location
- While installing the fog lights, painted all the radiator panel & light supports etc black.
-detailed all the car with a clay bar, wax, polish.
Now i am looking for somebody to re-trim my door cards and rear seat. I will put up another post about that on here but hopefully i can update this thread tonight or tomorrow with the pictures i have of the progress.

Re: my 77 galant v6
My computer still won't let me upload pics
.
Got a fair bit done over the weekend on the old girl.
Fixed up a new dash without wood grain (POV pack) and fitted up my guages etc.
Removed all the paint and sound deadening from the interior except for the main floor which I need to buy dry ice for tomorrow.
Will continue to prep the interior through the week and then paint hopefully on the weekend.
I'm enjoying working on it at the moment and it's something to look forward to after work...
