My 76 GD galant
My 76 GD galant
Hey guys here is a pic of my newly purchased GD galant. Its a 3spd auto with a 1600 motor.
The car is a original one owner, with no rust and all original parts.
But since i have bought it i have only upgraded the headlights to the new h4 crystal beam with led rings so it looks like angel eyes.
I will post more pics up soon.
The headlight pic is just with the parkers only.

Re: My 76 GD galant
Thanks guys.. well as for idea on what to do. i was more or less heading to a rotary,
But today i have just bought a scorpion front end for the brakes upgrade and 2 saas front seats which i would like to get reupholstered like the original style so they dont look to odd.
Maybe in the next couplr of week will get some mags.
But thanks for the good feed back on the car.
As foe those headlights, got them from ebay of brigh light led in melbourne. 65 a pair. the only thing you will need to modify is the outside ring but nothing to major.

I also have $0.02c and I gotta agree with TJ, don't change the look af this at all, it is perfect.
Maybe put some subtle updated seats in the front, slip a nice efi 2.6 under the bonnet and thats about it I reckon

Before you plan any engine conversions, check with an engineer. Depending on what state you're in, the rules have changed. Pretty sure the rule in NSW is no larger then 2L now?

Re: My 76 GD galant
It all seems up in the air at the moment. The best person to get a straigh answer from would be an engineer, that is if you cab find one that hasn't thrown their hands up in the air and walked out. Even then, the RTA seem to keep changing their mind at the moment.75wagon wrote:Before you plan any engine conversions, check with an engineer. Re: My 76 GD galant
Psst, you've got a hardtop grille on your car. All the hard top owners will trip over themselves trying to buy it off you
Not me though, I have one
Car looks great, wheels wouldn't be my choice but I have a bone for classic Japanese wheels. It's all subjective and down to taste - yadda yadda. How's the interior?? Tidy, factory original interiors make my heart sing

Re: My 76 GD galant
Thanks TJ,
As for the interior is sort of standard, i will get some pics up for you..
As for the grill its a shame it was broken on the driverside.. i would have liked it to be all good but the old guys son bumped into it so it snapped thats why i put some mesh in there to fill it up.. lol.

Re: My 76 GD galant
OK here is the interior, And yes i am going to retrim the front seats to suit the back seats and interior.
As for the tweeters before you all say, Oh man u damaged your vents just for tweeters.. well i didnt damage them at all.. i made up a small bit of mdf slid it in between the vents themselve and screwed my tweeters onto them so if i wanted to i can remove the tweeters and still have all my vents in original condition.

Re: My 76 GD galant
That dash pad!! that's one clean office you have there.
In fact it reminds me a lot of my first Galant I had in high school. Exact same colour scheme except mine was worn out pretty bad. I even had a very similar SAAS steering wheel
Good move with the tweeters, Mine are actually mounted down inside the vents. In the back of the vent assembly there's a little bit of plastic support/framework (??) that I cable-tied 1 inch tweeters into. The vents still have good airflow and the tweeters a well out of sight
Was pretty easy. Once you have the gauge fascia and the dash out (not nearly as hard as it sounds) there's only two screws holding the vent assemblies in. The plumbing behind them is slip fit so you can run your wiring through there and not have to cut or molest a single thing!

I want the wheels
Re: My 76 GD galant
LOL was, still got the little beast.. just need to find other wheels.. i dont like these any more.. trying to find some sigma turbo wheels.
Re: My 76 GD galant
You could go with Turbo rims?
But why not go for something with more offset?
Turbo rims have bugger all offset.
See...
But if you do want a set, I believe 77galantv6 still has these rims for sale? http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.p ... 836#p78836
These turbo rims are in awesome condition (one of the best sets I've seen), no pitting and no gutter rash. I should know, I polished them for him.
Here's a pic from while they were in my shed.

Re: My 76 GD galant
Dave,
you have to remember that my suspension is a long way from standard and makes the turbo's look sunken.
But yes they are still for sale

Yes, of course, you are correct. But still, nothing like pushing the boundaries with offset and a bit of tyre stretch.

Would they fit? they're big. Even on my Zed they'd be tight (and even need flares I think)How do i "like" the above post haha...

Either way, ROTA (love em or hate em) make "re-issues" of Hayashi Streets, Hayashi Yayoi and Something close to a Watanabe in those sizes at very good prices.
Rota Shakotan (the Hayashi Street lookalike)
Rota Saukura (the Yayoi dopleganger) They come in other colours besides pink Plus I know from the owner that they are 15 x 9 -10 offset and in these photos are running spacers. Without them they just tucked in with rolled guards and hipari tyres but I bet they rubbed.
And here's the Rota RB-X (a wider more aggressively offset Rota RB)
If by some miracle you can fit any of these on a Galant they'd look the goods.
Or you an kick it old school and check out http://www.otomoto.com.au for second hand vintage japanese wheels. He's based in north Parramatta in Sydney.
