LB lancer 4g63

Post by lb4g63 »

Hi, people. I've finely got around to posting pics,
well this is my 77 lb hatch I've had since 2000, here is the list of mods and some pics,

4g63 twin cam conversion with sigma 5 speed
vr4 galant brakes all round and master cylinder/booster
all new bushes in suspension, one more leaf added to back and kyb shocks, coil overs in the front with 230lb springs and z31 kyb inserts which are a lot shorter so the strut has been cut down,
sigma front control arms and kmac top mounts(which are crap) have given me -3.5 camber, adjustable radius rods, and adjustable front roll bar. lenso rs5 16x7 wheels with 205/45,

I am in the stages of building a turbo motor, it will be running a gt2871r turbo,
this is the manifold i made and am also building a custom intake too.

Got a bell housing from the states to run a w series box, just have to find one now,
Image

alternator relocation kit, 850cc injectors and fidanza aluminum flywheel.
Image

i have a rn25 hilux diff to fit as well, bearing set, 3.9 gear set, and Detroit truetrac center, mmm nice and shiny.Image

Got some work to do and i'll keep you posted, have to add my brothers Starion here as well,

Oh and this is my everyday driver, 93 2wd hilux, 2.8 diesel. lowered 4" with r32 gtst wheels, i bought it with 270000, the motor hasn't been touched, then fitted td04l of wrx and front mount cooler, it now has 330000km's, i'm running 18psi now and goes really well, I even average 7.3 l/100kms

That's in great condition.
How would you say the car works now as a total package? I'm debating adding extra leaves or not to the back of my hatch.

On the motor:
A lot of the members here who do this conversion, struggle to fit/solve the CAS/firewall problem. How did you get around it?

On the struts/brakes:
What struts did you start with for your brake conversion? I can see a lot of members being interested in this conversion if you could provide any details of it?

Dave...

That's a nice LB you have there. Does it go well with the 4G63 N/A?

Thanks for the comments, as total package now the car works quite well, i take it to the local track (baskerville) and have some good fun, it surprises a few people too handling wise, adding the extra leaf at back is worth it, i might even add another or half leaf, they only have one standard, i found the shocks can make a huge difference, i had monroe, then pedders which were both crap, the engine power is ok but but not real good, it's only a standard motor, with the balance shafts removed, its running a wolf 3d v4, i didn't have any trouble with the cas, its close but not touching, i just mounted the engine in with gearbox mounted and made the mounts, the sump is also cut down as it would off hung to low. the front struts are lb ones, to fit the vr4 discs i machined the hub down so the disc would slide on then made the caliper mounts, running QFM pads and braided lines, the rear discs slide straight on and just had to make caliper bracket, no hand brake yet, but will be when the hilux diff goes in. I'll probably hang on the headers for the moment, they are modified sigma 2l ones.
If ya's have any questions or want more details on anything just ask.

Nice Lux, is it standard motor?
The paint on the lancer is not real good, Thats why I didn't get real close with the camera, :$ It has a bit of rust showing and the windscreen is cracked now, When the other motor goes in I would like to paint the whole thing.

Sorry Ted the hilux not for sale :D

What an awesome package!

A mint LB just sold in Sydney for $1300,
combine that with not having to modify the firewall to fit a twin cam turbo...
LB and LCs are a good option!

Plus the Hatches look pretty sweet, especially compaired to a 4 door sigma!

Very nice mate!
HP output?
or is it pretty stock atm?

I brought Kmac strut tops for my LA and totally agree, Garbage!

And you found KYB to be significantly better shocks?

What a beautiful looking coupe!

One quick question though, what thermostat housing did you use? I too am running one of Jayracing.com's front outlet but for the moment I'm just using the original housing that was on the Hyundai Sonat...... uhhh i mean GSR Galant I got the motor from. Because I totally didn't use a Hyundai..... :$

It just seems a little neater than mine. Also, Is that an "off the shelf" top hose you're running or is it just one you've cut up. I've got one to cut up so I'm not too worried but if you've found one that just goes straight on that'd be cool to know too.

Not real sure on hp output, it is fairly stock, The KYB shocks are definitely better then the the monroe and pedders,

Yes I am running a gsr galant thermostat housing but modified so i can use a 90 degree hose which i cut from another one, just went to repco and matched something up, I'm not sure if the housing from the Hyundai... i mean gsr is the same as mine? I made my front outlet from the head, it come out on an angle to get it up and away from the water pump pully, Is the jayracing one straight?

George.
