Re: Kia sportage gearbox
thanx for the welcome btw. It actually has a 4g32b with 4 -1 headers 2+1/4 exhaust with 32 36 weber and the 4 speed jap box with an msd 6al. but i was looking at future options as the saturn has gotten very difficult to maintain over here in trinidad. My dream setup is an amg tuned Na 4g63 with a 5 speed but thats a "tall order" over here. the gearbox from the Kia though wouldnt be hard to get and im sure it would be in better condition than a jap box as the jap would be older and more abused i tink.
Re: Kia sportage gearbox
Alright... some information from our market not sure how close it is to yours.....
The Kia sportage did not recieve the Hyundai motor package until 2001ish. by this stage Hyundai was not using the Mitsu power plant and I am not sure they kept the motor gearobx pattern. If the Kia sportages did get the mitsu motor then the gearbox will be a narrow pattern, but I think You might be hoping a little. All Hyundai mitsu motored vehicle were front wheel drive so their boxes are useless. Before that the Kia sportage ran Mazda gear and is closely based on the Mazda B6 motor. This is a F series pattern for mazda and will definately not bolt to a 4G32, you need a G series motor I think, I am a little sketchy on this one. Your clutch and pressure plate will be an interesting combo too, as if you can bolt one up you will require the clutch from a kia and a pressure plate from a mitsu vehicle. The Jap boxes arent too bad I would possibly try to source another Jap box and rebuild it rather than trying the other options. Rebuilding one is not too hard but here in Australia you need to order the bearings etc seperately and make your own gasket kit.
Have a look around as I am sure you will be able to source a mitsu box.
Cheers
