4G63 DOHC Auto to Manual?

Post by llgc »

I'm looking at buying a 1990 Galant GSR with the intention of using the engine in my GD, only thing is that the GSR is an auto. I'm intending to use the jap 5 speed from the GD, did I read somewhere that the auto has a 7bolt crank and manual 6bolt? If so what can I do for a flywheel?
Cheers,
Mike

I had to swap the flywheel in mine even though the donor engine was a manual 6 bolt crank. For some reason the FWD fly doesn't have the bearing in the centre. I was lucky enough to find an express van at pick and payless with a narrow block 6 bolt (the came in both wide and narrow, take a tape measure) I'm not too sure if they had narrow 7 bolts as well but it'd still be the place to look.
While you're at it, swipe the sump and oil pick up out of the van too, the FWD sump isn't flat on the bottom and sits really low when it's in the car. The van ones we nice and flat and a good 30-40 mm shallower. Don't forget the oil pick up too, I haven't swapped mine over yet but I'm pretty sure they'd be shorter to match the shallower sump.

Have a dig around the forum here as well as projectzerog.com and ausstarion.com the info is all out there.

My build is getting close to finished so I'll have a thread up soon with all the stuff I've learned. As well as all the stuff I've buggered up too :P
