I would imaging it depends on what you want to do with it.

Bit big for a street engine.

These are the backing plates for TO4E TO4B & TO3. The TO4E is a big mother

That sort of power can be made with a t04b with the right selection of wheels and housings you can see upwards of 250kw@wheels.

Is it a genuine garrett or is it a chinese turbo.

i doubt it would be a genuine garrett unfortunetly. i asume it will be a chinese/ebay jobbie. actually wile on that subject what are your thpoughts on the ebay turbos? i see that onle a few are water cooled, and have also seen quite a few cars running them with good results but i don't know for how long???

I know of some cars getting around with chinese turbo's depends on which one I will have a chat with the person using them and find out. I know a lot of cars are using the hks copy wastegates and they are producing big numbers as with anything these country's will start to produce quality, remember the old saying Jap crap it is only a matter of time.

my turbo:

Specs;

T03 FRONT

Compressor – Exducer: 46mm, Inducer: 60mm, 60trim, 0.5A/R

T04B REAR

Turbine – Exducer: 64mm, Inducer: 47mm, 53trim, 1.06A/R

it lags a bit cos of the 1.06... ok, it lags a lot  but the good thing about it is i can drive off boost just about everywhere, can sit on 150ks, with the right amount of the long pedal, and still be off boost :p so it saves the turbo a bit

but is gen garrett and i only paid 300 delivered for it, and it was reco'd... right time and place, and the seller didnt no much bout turbo's, so that helped a little :ugeek:

i would be careful of the chinese ebay units, i have heard some of them come with free compressor wheel blades for ya intercooler

You have a way with words mate, :)
Don't try to insure a 1984 Galant Turbo 2000 with RACV, they'll insist that it only came out with a super charger, and that the turbo is an illegal mod........

just sayin it like it is man, i have a few mates that didnt tick the free compressor wheel blades box, but ended up with them anyways... but i also know 2ppl who swear by the cheap chinese turbos and have never had a single issue with them, even on moderate boost levels 14/17psi.. i guess its just hit and miss, but i will always give them a miss

rather by an unknown condition 2nd hand garrett than a spankin new ebay special turbo
i like these ones that advertised garrett in the item description, and in the ad it says "built on the same machines that garrett use" hmmm

hey guys you mention the different size wheels, and you mention lag.
Can you elaborate more so we get an idea of how it actually drives.
Along with the Size of Turbo and Wheels,

Is it 2.0L or 2.6L?
Are you running a Cam?
Internal or External Gate?

What RPM does Turbo start Spooling?
What RPM do you have full boost?
How Much boost are you running?
What RPM do you have full Tourque?

Just to give abit more of an Idea so i can better decide what i want
Cheers D

P.S depending what you want to do with your car,
If you want to do it up to keep it, save abit longer and avoide the Chinese.
Im having issues with one that came on the car ATM!

2.6
std m6 roller cam
external gate

3800rpm
4700rpm
10 psi atm - gonna run 15 psi constantly when i get a new gate
dont no, hasnt seen a dyno yet

but all that will change, when i activate the nitrous, how much it will change, i cant answer just yet

i was thinking about trying to find a rear housing with about .82 but im not sure yet, cos with the 1.06 i can sit it on 150ks and still be off boost - with the right amount of the big pedal ;)

hope this gives ya some insight and helps guide ya :D

thanks brett. im go.ing to view the turbo tomorrow after tafe. with the .70 rear housing and .50 front i suspect there wouldnt be much lag, and would expect it to be on boost by 3000rpm, if the turbo dosent turnout to be a t3 flange then ill have to forget about it. thew turbo im running at the moment is too small obviously but i just chucked it on to try it with the intentions of upgrading it asap. its got .48 rear housing and i believe its a .50 front, its on full bost at about 2000rpm and spools up at about 1200rpm. from what i can find it was off a saab 900 aero coupe

if were talking ebay T3's i ran one for a while. the one with the larger comp wheel

hits full boost around 2500-2700 rpm, breaks traction dry in 3rd at 3500rpm dies in tha ass around 5000rpm due to tiny A/R exhaust.

made 209kw@18 psi, stock low comp engine with st2 cam, efi
made 2??kw @22 psi, went like stink!

Hey Lethal yeah man that was great info.
Anyone else got that sort of info about their turbo selection?

Man 3800 rpm is pretty high, well for a street car it would be, i realise you mainly like it for drags
If you arent getting full boost until 4700, what rpm can you pull with that cam??

Personally ill be going smaller, come on much earlier and be more user friendly for street and short circuit stuff.

But thanks Lethal!!

Better the Intercooler than your worked engine. Even if you ran a small cheapy intercooler between the cheap or expensive turbo and the intercooler, safe guard against both.
