Fast NA Saturn motor?

Post by Spac2 »

Bench racing alert!

What sort of power have people gotten from their 'all motor' Saturns? No turbo, no blower, no "nawz".

I keep hearing about how the valve angle limits power...

A couple of well-known ones within our car club are around the 85kw atw mark.

124hp atw with the old webber carb... Will re test with the twin sides later

Another member I know is at the 121rwhp mark. But all this is a bit of money.. Mine I know cost close to $4k including the carbs. It's quick for a na 1600.. But was it a wise choice? Fuel is a bitch! And if you break something.. You will have to get it custom made to suit..

There's still more I could do to it yet. Double valve springs, stroke/destroke the engine, elec ignition (on its way).
But I love it :) and that's all that matters

That sort of power would be fine. My benchmark is my piston-powered 808 which made 67kW ATW.

Now, to make things more difficult: What if I said that 1560cc was the absolute limit?

Then lower your sights considerably I suspect !

Both Dinta Officer's and Steve Ashton's cars are around 1800cc in a 4G32 block ... using big fat pistons (80 or 81mm I think) and increasing the stroke by offset boring the big ends.

If you gave Dinta a ring I'm sure he would be happy to enlighten you. Shoot me a PM if you want his number.
