Hey guys just interested to know if a 1600 head will bolt up to a 1300 block?
Cheers
1600 head on 1300?
Re: 1600 head on 1300?
Assuming chain drive, yes, as long as the 1600 head doesn't have the EGR slot running down the side.

Re: 1600 head on 1300?
Yeah it is chain drive, I'll check this egr slot. Cheers mate
Re: 1600 head on 1300?
Okay so I have fitted the new head to my galant and it looks like it does have the egr slot.
I got the head of a mate who was running it on his 4g32 GB so I figured it would still be okay. I filled the motor and water came out from the exhaust side. Is there anything I can do to still use this head? or are they just not compatible?

Re: 1600 head on 1300?
i have done some research on the forum and found a few posts about this issue, the exhaust Ports holes and air pump inlet hole have already been blocked so do I just need the new egr style gasket?
Re: 1600 head on 1300?
Well i decided to just try the Egr head gasket and it all looks to have worked fine.
To sum up if you are looking to run an EGR head on a non EGR block you need to block off the air pump inlet on the side of the head, the holes in the exhaust ports also need to be filled or blocked and you will need to use the 125mm wide head gasket.

Re: 1600 head on 1300?
Is there actually any difference between the blocks, or is the difference just the EGR (wide) vs. non-EGR heads ?if you are looking to run an EGR head on a non EGR block
Re: 1600 head on 1300?
Yes i think there is a difference, for one thing the head hangs over the side of the block and the EGR slot is partially exposed, on the early head and block there is four coolant ports which run down the exhaust side, the EGR head/ gasket doesnt have these ports however the holes in the early gasket do overlap with the EGR slot which then allows coolant to go into the EGR slot and run out the motor. In saying all this i havent looked at an EGR block but im pretty confident they wouldnt have those four extra coolant ports.

Re: 1600 head on 1300?
I have a stripped EGR 4G32 block sitting on the bench .... I'll take a pic of the top.
Would be interested to compare it to the non-EGR ("narrow head") version
