Installing a Distrubtor to a 4g32 chain engine

Post by mattys »

Hi Guys,

A few months back i removed the distributor from my 32 chain engine as i was potentially getting rid of it. As i turns out i think i will be using that engine after all.

So my issue is that i have taken out the distributor and not marked anything as to positioning.

Can any of you help as to how i could successfully re-install the distributor to the engine?

Cheers,

Matt.

The end of your distributor fits into your oil pump, inside your timing case. There is only two positions it can be in if you don't move the oil pump. look at the end of your distributor and you'll see what I mean.
If that doesn't work read the manual to find top dead centre and place the rotor button accordingly.

Hope this helps

ok set th engine up on tdc cylinder no1 on compression stroke. to do this remove number one spark plug and rotate the engine with a spanner on the crank pulley and you finger tightly pressed in the no1 spark plug hole. rotate the engine untill you feel pressure on you finger(engine is comeing up to tdc n01, compression stroke) and then align the mark on crank pulley to the tdc mark on the timing cover. now install the distributor with the cap off but the rotor button still on, when the dizy is fully pressed in the rotor button should be pointing directly at number 1 cylinder lead. after this start engine and setup your inital timing with a timing light. if you try and crank the engine to start and it pops and farts you have the distrubutor 'one tooth out'

Hi Guys tried the above and it looked like the engine had been turned whilst it was out.

Needed to move that oil pump positioning thing around until i found the optimum spot!

took about 1.5 hours but all good now.

Thanks again for the help.

cheers,

matt
