4G32 Exhaust and Manifold

Post by VGJONO »

I have 2 questions i want to ask

Firstly i have aquired a cast manifold that is a bit out of the ordinary that goes from 4 to 2 then into one after the manifold, would this be a worthy upgrade from the standard cast 4 into 1 manifold?

Secondly i need to get an exhaust made up for my sisters GA galant, of which i would like to use the above manifold on, i am unsure of what would be best suited, i have run a 2" sports Exhaust with a single muffler and resonator and it has a very nice note to it and made a difference in power, although nice i found it can be a bit quite at times, now my sister likes the exhaust noise my Hardtop made with what looks to be a 2" or 2 1/4 system with a single muffler. what would you say is better out of the two, or if you have another suggestion feel free to share

this is a video of the hardtop

So the cast manifold still goes into a single collector at the flange gasket? If it had 2 separate collectors at the flange it would allow the secondary runners to be made longer, improving torque (but it takes up more space having another pipe down that side of the block). Aftermarket extractors are still the way to go for an improvement in performance. A 2" exhaust system is about as big as you'd want to go on a Saturn 1600, any bigger would rob back pressure...

i will most likely use a set of extractors, this just came in a parts car i got, so was thinking it might be a bit better than a standard manifold and save me some $$$$

Iirc, the manifold that goes to 2 outlets is for the 1500, not the 4G32 1600.

The roundport + twin outlet cast manifold was also used on the Lancer 1600GSR motor ..... and some other late 4G32s I think. Flows significantly better than the single outlet manifold, but as Geezer says above, you then need to run twin secondaries into a single pipe.

On a stock / lightly modified motor, will do just as good a job as a set of extractors (because the exhaust flow is not going to be the limiting factor to power)

yeah, this engine will only stay pretty much standard, possibly a better carby down the track but that would be it, just had a look and the manifold haa two ports wherre the flange would meet, the only issue is getting an exhaust shop that will be able to make up a flange to suit and what not, and the flange it has on it is pretty dead and goes straight into the one pipe right after the manifold.

Any exhaust shop should be able to do that, for not much money. If they can't/won't, then they shouldn't be in the exhaust business !

when i got my exhaust done they scoffed at me when i asked them to fit the extractors aswell as make the exhaust, i dont have high hopes for finding someone to make a flange as alot of places are lazy up here

This be the flange off of the manifold, should be no issue to get an exhuast made to fit upto this?

Any competent exhaust shop will be able to make a set of pipes up for that manifold without any grief. 8-)

Is the flange the same as a Scorp intermediate exhaust section? Could be a bolt on job if it is. Sigma's also use the same flange, however the pipes run horizontal and don't fit. The Scorp ones run vertical and do fit a Galant.
