Did all of the different lancers come with the same ratio for the steering box?
After tracking my car a few times now I am finding the need for a tighter ratio.

Lancer Hatchbacks had a variable ratio steering box I think.Other than that the LA and LB were the same.

variable is no help, it just get quicker at fell lock.. it just helps with parking basically. (as far as im aware anyway)

I've got a feeling that putting a tighter ratio steering box in your car isn't going to solve your 'tracking' problem. My lancer hatch (LB) had 15x6.5 wheels with a bit of offset and on some roads it would track ferociously. A tighter ratio box will only reduce how many turns from lock to lock. They're used for track and rally racing ( less effort in fast turns).

geezer, I think by tracking he was refering to a race track outing.
krohny, variable ratio rack change with vehicle speed. Less turns at slow speed to help parking and more turns over 60 or so small adjustments don't send you into the nearest hedge.

We never had any issue when we were running my LA at Clubcars/IPRA level 15 years ago.
From memory........... We used the longer sigma control arms and standard LA lancer steering arms, as the sigma ones were longer than the Lancer ones.
Alignment wise was -4 neg camber and +4 pos castor. These days thats fairly mild compared to the -6 neg camber & +6 pos castor most are using at that level these days.
2 suggestions........
Use a bigger diameter steering wheel, mine was 350mm, or you may have to use the old Datsun rally car trick of shortening up the steering arms to get what you need.

what car had that kind of variable ratio rack?
i always thought it was just pretty much so it didnt get hard near lock.. as i said for parking etc.

Not wanting to get "off topic", but "tracking" as geezer was saying is caused by the geometry set up (mostly scrub radius) !
Fit wheels that put all of the offset to the outside and it will "dart & dive" all over the place on bumpy roads and also be harder to turn when parking !
P.S. I wouldn't be going near "shortening the steering arms" unless a really "switched on" engineering type was doing the mod ! Steering is a very important safety item that you don't want to do any "backyarding" on

About to go massively off course on the thread but I backyarded power steering for my RB colt hatch after being told-'it can't be done'. And that was by 2 power steering specialists! The reference to tracking was apparently track racing.
