Advice wanted
Trying to decide on wheels and sizes for my lancer.Check out the pics and let me know what you think.I have just fitted some performance superlites in 13x6 on front with 185/65/13 kuhmo's and 13x7 with 205/60/13 kuhmo's on rear.Tried 13" for that old skool look but they are slightly too wide, especially the rear which have a deep offset.I do have a set of fibreglass flares that will cover them nicely but not sure if I want to fit them on this car.The body is too good to go cutting the guards I think. The offset is just too big I think on the rear and makes the stance look too wide when viewed from behind.Even with the flares fitted it would still look too wide in my opinion. These would probably look great on a galant which have a little more room in the guards.I love the look of the superlites so if I don't fit the flares I may sell these and fit some 15x6 or 15x7's with smaller offset.Or just polish up the sigma turbo rims off the turbo lancer and fit them.I have decided to just make the turbo car into a track/drag car so will probably fit the flares to it and go with some big wheels and tyres.I am going to fit a 2.2litre modded 4g52 with twin 45 webers and 5 speed to the silver lancer for now but may in future swap the turbo running gear over to it if I can legally get it registered in WA.Anyway let me know what you guys think? http://s159.photobucket.com/albums/t143 ... %20lancer/
Re: Advice wanted
Yeah, nice Lancers.
To my eyes, I reckon the silver one looked best with the standard rims.
Handling-wise, probably 175s would be the go, so if you can get some minilites to suit them it'd all be good
Others here will disgree, but I think for street use Astrons and Lancers (and GA/GB Galants) dont mix - your weight distribution will suffer. If Hoonboy is still on this site have a word to him - or ask at his website how to setup your suspension for a street Astron.
Of course, you could just work the Saturn

I know what you mean by the 13x6's being just a little bit to wide. I used to have them on my old LA. I currently have a set of 13x5.5 Superlites on my current LA and they fit under gaurd nicely. Here's some pic's of them. I'll post some more shortly looking down from the top of the guard if you like?

Re: Advice wanted
umm its just me but i think they are fine. i had 13x7 hotwires on my la and they stuck out as muck as your superlite's, then put flares on to run 14x8/ 14x10. wide wheels with a + offset will just foul the front struts so it has to be a comprmise on what you want.

Re: Advice wanted
yeah, but I agree with Smithy that his silver LA is too good to go cutting and fitting flares to. If the body wasn't as good as it is then I would suggest for him to go with the flares.

Re: Advice wanted
my body wasn't the best so i went with that option. But its the only way to get a decent wheel to look good. id be trying some 13x6.5 wheels. i had some 17x7 wheels on my la and they were a really good fit, think they were +30 with 5mm spacers

Re: Advice wanted
I think the wheels look like they fit perfectly and that body is way to nice to fit flares. You need to sell me the flares

Re: Advice wanted
you can always just roll the guards, it will not be factory obviously but you wont be chopping them atleast.
im gonna be rolling a set of 15 or 16x8 with zero offset, i think it will need to be lowered almost 3 inches to look any good, but where there is a will there is a way..

Re: Advice wanted
Thanks for the feedback guys.I may just try some narrower tyres in rear and see how it looks.Definately needs lowering tho

Great pair of cars Smithy!
I dont really like Super or Mini lites on our cars,
The round shape of the wheels is better suited to MkII Escorts, and Datsuns, because i think it softens the sharp edges,
our cars are already round shaped, so just my opinion, but dont suit.
And yeah looks abit silly having them stick out at the back,
and please dont wreck your mint body but cutting and drilling.
If the Silver LA is going for the Stock look,
I am actually a fan of the Factory rims and thin tyres.
Or try and pick up some JDM wheels, This is a QLD company selling brand new ones.
Limited choice for our stud pattern unfortunately.

And why not keep the White Turbo registered?
Ive never understood wanting to turn a car that could be potentially driven anytime you want,
into a Drag/Track/Rally car only, that can only be driven for afew mintues at at time, once a month,
but thats just me each to their own hey

Re: Advice wanted
you are using the wrong offset wheels if you can't get 6inch wide wheels to fit without needing flares. 15x6 +24 with 195/50x15's fit fine and look good. The only mod you might need is a small amount of camber on the front depending on the suspension setup.
Re: Advice wanted
Thanks hoonboy-someone mentioned I should ask you about tips for setting up the suspension to suit an astron in a lancer. What do you recommend?
Re: Advice wanted
What usage and what budget? A freshen up with good quality shocks, stiffer springs, new rubbers everywhere and a decent alingment makes a huge difference to your average street car. After that it gets expensive, then it gets ridiculous!
Re: Advice wanted
Road and occassional track use. I already have GH stuts with coilover conversion and bilstein inserts.Still have stock front swaybar and just monroe shocks in rear.Would like to stop axle tramp in rear and stop the understeer it has now. I guess it needs a bigger swaybar on front and maybe a rear bar added. How do you fit an extra swaybar to the front?I see a lot of mazdas do this.Would be a cheap way I suppose.Thinking of adjustable strut tops too.
Re: Advice wanted
Try a wider or double front sway bar. A rear sway bar will almost always result in lifting the rear wheel when turning in hard. If you feel you need a rear sway bar go for the softest one you can otherwise it will be a waste of money
Re: Advice wanted
Go strut tops to get some decent settings in the front, add some decent shocks at the rear with an extra half leaf and a decent arc on the springs which may require lowering blocks or reversed eyes. A bigger sway bar at the front will not help at the moment, it may feel better, but it will be slower.
Re: Advice wanted
Thanks for the advice-this site has so many experienced people to offer advice. And hoonboy-how is your lancer coming along? I regularly go to your webpage but it hasnt been updated since 2009 I think? What are you doing with your superlites now you have new rims?
Re: Advice wanted
Lancer has stalled for a while, been working on/racing an LC but it hasn't been completly neglected. If I get a few days free, there should be an update with a few bits in it. Superlites are on the LC (along with the brakes and front suspension) at the moment.
Re: Advice wanted
I thought you bought a mint 2 door Smithy? No pics of it?
IMHO 13x6 should be fine, but you need the right offset. I run a 15x6 and they fit ok.

Re: Advice wanted
Mrbishi,
I think you might of mistaken the silver car as a 2 door. If that was the case, I would of kept quiet about it and it would be sitting in my garage instead.

Re: Advice wanted
MrBishi-it's a long story but the short one is that the deal fell through.I found the car in adelaide and we agreed on a price but he said he couldn't sell it for a few months so I agreed to wait.In the meantime the silver lancer came up for sale and I nearly didn't buy it because I was getting the 2 door. But for some reason I decided to buy it anyway and since then the guy with the 2 door has changed his phone no. and hasn't returned any emails regarding the car. So I'm so glad I bought the silver lancer coz its absolutely original and very good condition.I had my heart set on a 2 door but 2x4 doors are a good tradeoff

Re: Advice wanted
The 2 door in Adelaide a white one? Been on eBay a couple of times?
Re: Advice wanted
Yeah I think thats the one.I saw it on ebay and it didnt sell so I asked him to send me some pics of the whole car.I agreed on a price as long as the pics looked ok coz I was worried about rust.He said his son was using the car for the next few months but would get the pics to me.Now no contact at all.Even email address is changed now.Doesn't matter,I've decided I prefer the look of the 4 door after all.It looks more proportioned.
Re: Advice wanted
I got the pics
It wasn't perfect. A bit of rust and a rear hit so the asking price was a bit high. At the time I was keen, but he claimed it was sold.
The previous time on ebay he 'sold' it to someone overseas. (Nigerians?
) Don't think he was very interested in selling to be honest.

Re: Advice wanted
Yeah he sent me some pics but I asked for a lot more as I could see surface rust in a lot of places.Told him I wanted to see entire car inside and out and thats the last I heard from him.Must have been too much work or maybe trying to hide something.
