Rotary or CA18DET into 76 Galant Coupe?
Rotary or CA18DET into 76 Galant Coupe?
Hey guys. Just got a 76 Galant Coupe. Just wondering what transplant would be easier out of the ca18det and rotary. Not sure with what cross members and mounts i will need to use. Allready built a 76 GD Galant with the 2.6ltr astron and 5-speed. But wanna do sumthn with more power this time. Any hints and tips would be great. Cheers Jamie

both doable, ca's spin bearings before you get any decent power from then, but rotaries can be built for lots and lots of power
BUILT NOT BROUGHT BY ALGIE.

Either is going to go well.
I know SR20's are a little tricky to get in due to the block(or maybe front of gearbox) hitting the drag link.

CA is a 1.8 and the SR is a 2.0.... from all accounts the only good thing ive seen/heard of CA's is good bottom end torque. in every other way the SR seems beneficial. its a bit more expensive but worth it if your not doing the rotor. i personally know nothing at all about rotors except their loud as ffffkkkkk

Re: Rotary or CA18DET into 76 Galant Coupe?
DOn't bother with the CA. They are extremely old now and finding a decent one will be hard. They aren't the best motor in the world. People use them in datsuns because legalities stipulate that they can't go 2.0 turbo.
Rotaries are awesome but you really have to know what you are doing or you'll have problems.
Go with what Matt said and chuck a VR4 in there or build a proper 2.6 and wipe the floor with all of them.
