you can buy the mount off the shelf from bursons repco to bolt up to jap 5sp using your crossmember. its a mackay mount a1426 rings a bell. it was listed under a manual 1.4 lancer.

and where your crossmember is bolted there is another set of holes behind it, use them ;)

From experience, those extra holes do not line up for the jap 5'er.

Pic of what is in the GD.

Sorry about picture quality... but damn that is an old pic

Ive got the original mount from the gc 4 speed with 50mm spacing and the one to suit the wider 60mm spacing for the jap box bolts.

the position of the box and crossmember is fine, its just the way the mount bots up to the crossmember as both ones are a different style.

are you running the saturn?

thats right gus75, i just cant figure out why the people feck around all the time modifying things that a little bit of brain power and a engine mount catalogue will fix  there are two mounts listed, one is a 4sp mount(narrow bolt spacing) and the other is wide bolt spacing. just buy the mount and bolt it in and move the crossmember back to the pre drilled and tapped holes. done peroid

Maybe some of us are not aware of a bolt in solution????? can't say i prefer using a welder over spanners...

Do you have any pictures? I'm rather interested to see what you have come up with?
Was un able to find anything that would will in the 50mm (approx) gap that i was left with when the box went in.

Gus75: nar mate, running Astron :) . But can't see that changing things for this situation, the sandwhich plate should still be in the same position.

Cheers,
Nick.

The mount I bought for mine was listed as a 5 speed mount for an LB/ LC lancer hatch. Can't remember the number.
The 5 speed mount uses the same holes in the chassis rail as the auto.

^^ Beat me to it, I was about to say that the second set of holes was for the auot box as it sits back a little further. :blah:

Here is what i did.
cut out a hole in the rear crossmember big enough for the sigma mount to fit. cut the sigma crossmember down and welded it to the galant one. gives you alot better mount and will take both the jap or borg box.
still bolted straight in to the origional galant mounting holes on the body.
The only reason i did this was to give it a stronget mount as i kept breaking to galant ones.

:banh: :hit: :banh: righto then, i have mentioned the mount more than several time but poeple seem too keen to want to butcher crossmembers than actually just bolt the mount in and bolt the gearbox up :wut: :|

You don't need to cut your mount.
The LB/LC Lancer crossmember is the same a s a Galant.

This is for a GB (the GA/ GB mount is not the same as GC/GD), He also states he's using a Sigma Mount (also different)
The LB/ LC Lancer 5 speed mount bolts straight into the GC/GD Galant cross member as you wanted.
Go to a parts place and look it up. THEY EXIST......

Origional question. What have you done?
So i posted what i did. I know you dont have to cut the rear crossmember, and you can use the origional mount. I also gave you reasons why i did what i did.

So far i have only bolted the box up to the block to see if needed to move the position of the crossmember (i don't need to its going to go back in the same position fine).

I was thinking i was going to have to do what you have done, and probably still will. Ive torn 2 or 3 Galant ones with the 4 speed in the car and if the Lancer one fits in the same spot i can imagine it would be as weak as the Galant one. The Sigma one just looks like it will last a whole lot longer and i think is worth the work in the long run cause im sick of pulling boxes out...

Thanks Dave ill go have a look for one though and see if they are any stronger.

Never had these problems before semi slicks came along..... :banh:

Thanks for your help.

They are basically the same mount, so you will probably have the same problem.....

Would suggest using off the shelf solution, would avoid any engineering dramas (if caught).
Just my two cents worth. Am thinking of putting 5speed in Galant wagon.
