Hi lads. I am trying to find somewhere that may sell new or close to new 5 spd gearboxes for Chrysler Galants. Mine is a 73' GB galant which i am running with a 2.6L astron (4G54) If anyone may have some info, or info on a substitute that has a a relativly easy conversion and install that would be great. I am currently running the original 5 speed which has always worked beautifully, but its just starting to get a bit tired haha. if anyone has some info that would be great. cheers :P

New? I doubt it.
Scorpion, LB or LC Lancer if its a narrow block.
Sigma Borg-Warner if its a wide block.
Or Supra...- see other posts here about this option.
Anyone here ever tried rebuilding these?
By the way - Nice Ride :D

hi nice car mate
as for your gbox you need to work out if your engine is
a wide block or narrow block
the factory jap style gbox (KM132)would be perfect for your
set up and that is probably whats is in there
you can do a supra 5 speed conversion for around $1500 give or take
but it would be a little bit of overkill for a near std engine
cheers stealth 8-)

hey buddy. Cheers for that info. Yea the standard box does work well. I am soon to be fitting a side draft webber which should give it a bit more giddy up but i still think with a bit of loveand care a factory box in good condition should still do the trick. Any ideas on where to look or who to talk to about getting one?? :P

mate your probably better off having your gbox reconditioned
as most gboxs you buy sh will be the same tried mess as yours
or pricey
the easy way to tell wide from narrow is stick your hand down
the back off the head/block on the block you should be able to
find a welsh plug
if you cant feel or only a 1/4 of the welsh plug its a wide
if you can feel the hole plug its a narrow
hope this helps
the other thing to take into accont is that there are different
shifter postions as well does your car still have the centre consle
in it ?
cheers stealth 8-)

sweet thanks for that. yer thats prob a good idea getting mine reconditioned. nah no centre console. just got a dummy one that i mounted in with a couple of screws. i forget wat i got it out of lol. i know the gb box is a shorter box so yer would have to cut a new hole for it if i did take the option of a different box. Ill look into getn a reco and see how i go. Ill also get some pics up wen i get the side draft carb on it in the next couple of months :P thanks again for your help

GB's look best in yellow. love it!

can't help you with finding a gearbox but if it helps, i'm runnin a lancer box in mine (narrow block ) and we give it a floggin on the track and it handles it easy. also the selector comes up where it should so no cuttin holes.

you can run tn-tr magna gear make it EFI.

you can put twin webers on and do balance shafts get a new timing chain off superscan, get custom headers/extractors made up by stealth..

what ever really lol.
