G'day,
My fuel pump is playing up, and I am trying to get the old one out of the tank.
The pump is in the rear of the tank, and is accessed from underneath the car. I have removed the retaining screws, but I am only able to pull the pump out about 1/2 an inch.
Is there a trick to getting the pump out on a HG galant?
Thanks,
Alan.
hg fuel pump removal
Re: hg fuel pump removal
I figured it out.
You need to remove the drain plug type bolt that is on the bottom of the tank, directly under where the fuel pump is.
If the fuel pump was not attached to that bolt, it would be easy to remove the pump without draining the tank. The design is a bit of a nuisance.
Cheers,
Alan.

Re: hg fuel pump removal
G'day,
Now that the pump is out, I have had a good look at the inside of the fuel tank.
The tank is covered in a white crusty layer, that looks a bit like salt crystals. I think the original lining has degraded because the car sat for a few years without use. It may also be due to E10 fuel I used (I know it was a mistake, but I had used it for years without problems in another car).
I spoke to a mechanic, and he recommended replacing the fuel tank. He said it is hard to clean them, and they normally rust again after they are refitted.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with their fuel tank?
I have found a few products that are meant to clean the tank, and then reseal it. Has anyone tried them? Something like the KBS Aquaklean and rust blast?
Does anyone know of a good place in Melbourne that will clean and reline the tank?
Cheers,
Alan.
