Astron 2 engine revving low/ air hoses.

Post by Shitjas31 »

Hey everyone, hoping i might be able to get some help figuring out a few things that are goign wrong with my engine at the moment. its probably basic everyday stuff but i have no clue about cars haha.

A few times lately i've jumped in my car and started it up only to have it rev so low that the engine shuts down. its happened leaving work as well as after pulling up to traffic lights. when it does decide to work sometimes at idle the engine can rev anywhere up to 1500rpm. the car seems to drive fine, though can rev up to 4500rpm before changing gears (its an auto). any ideas of things to look at that may help getting the car idling better and not cutting out?

The second thing i've done was possibly mix up a few air hoses, the small ones that lead from T-shaped connectors to other pipes or to parts of the engine. when i bought the car the little black and yellow air filter thing coming off the exhaust manifold wasnt attached so i recently found another one at u-pull-it and connected it up after buying some new hose. as i had some extra hose i tried replacing some of the worn out looking hoses but i found several connectors that had no hose to them so stupidly decided that i knew something about engines and connected up hoses to these free connectors and now the car revs terribly low on startup and shuts down if i dont keep the revs up, which can get hard at lights and corners lol.

would anyone have a diagram or the spare time in adelaide to come round with their astron 2 powered car and help me figure out what hose goes where? payment can be made in cash and or beer haha.

really appraciate any ideas that might get the car running as it should.

cheers guys!

Welcome to the site mate,

If you would be able to post up a few pictures of the hoses you are referring to, I'm sure there will be a few of us that can help point you in the right direction.

Did the engine cut out before hand, or is it mainly after you have changed a few things around?

Nick.

im pretty sure he is talking about the stupid pollution gear hoses with all the little connectors which run to carb. if you get a manual on the car you can actually get rid of the whole lot of them as long as you have secondary's and one running to vacuum advance. but back to your problem the morning stuff sounds like the choke is not working properly, which i had similar problem with. and the reving high before changing sounds like an automatic issue more than engine cause if it was engine over reving it would still change gears. i might be able to get a picture of my cars engine if i have time tomorrow with pics of where i have the lines running if thats what you talking about.
