Assistance with electric fuel pump
Assistance with electric fuel pump
G'day gang, Want to put an electric fuel pump onto my LC Lancer with 4G32B engine and 5 speed. As I getting close to 70 yo I would like one that I can mount without having to lie flat on my back under the car. Any suggestions/recommendations greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob.
Re: Assistance with electric fuel pump
is there anything wrong with the existing fuel pump? and is it a mechanical pump on there now. have you considered replacing it with what ever is on it now?
Re: Assistance with electric fuel pump
Car currently running mechanical fuel pump which has been pretty unreliable. Thought an electric pump might solve the problem but I s'pose I'll stick with the original. Thanks, Bob.
Re: Assistance with electric fuel pump
Unless it's a problem that you KNOW an electric pump will fix, then it will be a lot cheaper and easier to fit a replacement mechanical pump ...... it takes about 15 minutes. They can be had for about $50 on eBay.
The mechanical pumps are generally very reliable, but if it's the original pump then everything wears out eventually !
Most electric pumps need to be mounted at or below tank level (ie. under the car) plus you have to get one that has the right pressure (or fit a regulator), wire it up through a tachometric relay (if you want to be safe) and blank off the original pump location on the head.
I know which way I would be going !

Re: Assistance with electric fuel pump
I personally am not a fan of electric fuel pumps.
Just like I'm also not a fan of thermo fans.
My theory is, why turn something that's as reliable as anything into something that isn't.
Bob, I would just go and buy a factory type mechanical pump. They are expensive yes (at just over $100) but well worth the lack of hassle installing them. It's a shame they went to a non serviceable pump on the 4G32B, mind you, I haven't seen a kit for the 4G32 pumps for sale anywhere in years.
I run mechanical pumps on all my carburettor'd cars. And haven't seen reason to change.

Re: Assistance with electric fuel pump
much like the others have stated going from mechanical to electric has its problems. you will find that a replacement mechanical pump is both cheap and easy to do and will last quite a while. if ebays not your thing contact either repco or bursons (my prefference is bursons but sometimes repco is cheaper) and they will get a replacement for probably around 100. im not too familiar with lancers but it should be an easy DIY swap.
Re: Assistance with electric fuel pump
Thanks fellas, Really very helpful . As stated earlier I am sticking with the mechanical pump. Thanks again, Bob.
