Drags back at AIR 26th November

Post by Shifta »

Apparently it's all go - a mate just sent off an entry form. Competition cars and street cars but only 1/8mile because the run off isn't ready. I'll go for a look but would have entered if it was the full 1/4! Be so good to see regular meets there again - it's been too long!

Just saw the same thing on a few other forums. this is a post I made on another forum too, summarising what happening:

-----------------------------------

Very interesting:

26th November 2011 is the date for the first 1/8th mile street meeting. Featuring some group one top doorslammer vehicles to make the official opening one to remember. Continuous meetings from then on will take place so that finally we have a place to race off the street. Future meets will feature street, top fuel, top alcohol, pro stock and funny cars.

Taken from a previous comment from Rino on Facebook:
We are only able to run 1/8 mile at the moment because there is no track walling to complete a 1/4 mile run off. My aim in the long run is to return 1/4 mile drag racing to Adelaide. I think we should just enjoy what we have for now and look forward to the future. Thanks again for your support and querie. Lets just spread the word. Cheers.

Well should be interesting, and I for one really hope it takes off, and we can get 1/4 mile drags back in Adelaide. Yes the port motorplex would be great, but lets face it. While there is a labour government this will never happen. And even once the change occurs, it would be at least 2+ years for construction so lets hope this fills the gap nicely ;)

Yeah true. Apparently the track has been re-surfaced so all good. I do appreciate the fact that it's back but am disappointed it's 1/8mile :(. Fair enough my Tailem Bend experience was uniquely bad but a few 1/4 time slips would have been a starting point to go back and improve on! With AIR only being 1/8 mile, my Heathcote trip in Oct looks to be still on the cards :)

Definitely agree Leigh! I'll be there as a spectator for sure and will be spreading the word. The Tailem Bend day got 70+ cars entered with not much publicity so I reckon this day will draw a fair crowd.

I will be there, it is pretty much across the hwy from me :)
I am not a big drag fan and prefer corners but would love to run the hardtop just to see some numbers and who knows, if AIR starts making some money they may even re open the real race track?

+1, there is enough notice to get 10 or 15 South Australian members there
