your favorite thing about your car?
whenever people ask me "what the attraction to the galant?" Or "why didn't you just buy a newer car like a corolla or pulsar?" I allways reply with the fact that NOTHING in my galant is aided by electronics, no computer, no power steering, no brake booster. Its just a car, and if something goes wrong it easy to fix yourself.
Another thing I tell people is my favorite (personal prefrence) thing about my galant, and for me its the accelerator, when you push the accelerator the car doesn't just move, you FEEL the engine under your foot, you can feel the vibration from the revs in the pedal. That is my reason to why ill keep coming back for more. I find when I'm talking to people that understand cars, they tend to smile and understand exactly what your talking about.
My question is, what's your favorite thing about your car, and why?

Re: your favorite thing about your car?
The thing I like about my car is no one else can have one the same.
It doesn't matter how much money you have, you can't buy what isn't for sale. It's the exclusivity of it.
Buy a newer more common car and anyone who has enough money can have one too. But my car took years of hard work to get it to where it is and you just can't buy that.
Even if I sold it, it wouldn't be the same. It's that feeling you get when you drive something you've put together yourself.
I built it, no one can have exactly what I have, no matter what.

Re: your favorite thing about your car?
Yes, yes and yes.
i love old cars in general for the fact that they have no brain, they are like a man, its brain is in its..
anyway, they do what you tell them to there is no computer relaying the info from your foot and hands to the wheels, its foot - pedal - engine - go.
ive said this before il say it again - im a CHROME bumper man, if its got a chrome bumper its my type of car, i like the solid steed construction of old cars, no plastic, no weakness - and the fact that if you crash, your f****d haha, makes you feel alive
then my reason for liking galants, the balance, the style, the sound, the seats.. just awesome.
when i went to buy my second car (after my XC GS Falcon), i didnt know what i wanted, i was looking for something 'different' that was out of the ordinary, and i found my GC and i was hooked from that day forward

Re: your favorite thing about your car?
the look of it, just love the twin headlights and the hardtop shape also like the simplicity in repairing and tuning it, less of this tuning your car with a computer and more hands on adjusting the carby and so on. The most i like about it is that its rear wheel drive, its so much more fun to drive than these fwd cars
I want to go down on you and make you really happy, then i want to come back up slowly and fuck you real good, yours sincerely Petrol prices.
Re: your favorite thing about your car?
i like the fact that I will be able to re create the car that I had 30 years ago,the only difference is that I will be doing the work on it. I can't wait to feel the adrenalin rush as it is thrown into a corner at 7000+rpm on the dirt.

It's the fact that I can modify it without the use of a computer and it's so easy to work on.
My nephew just bought an A4 AUDI and you can't even change the gearbox oil without specialized equipment.
A set of sockets, ring and open ended spanners, pliers and some wire, and there isn't much you can't fix on the old girl.
Cheers.

Re: your favorite thing about your car?
the style , the look , the sound , the smells , the way it handles and drives
Re: your favorite thing about your car?
Unfortunately I haven't really driven my current LA (except in the street), But the thing that made me wan't to buy another LA, 8 years after my last one, was the way they drive and handle.
I remember in my old LA's you could feel every single bit of the road and could feel exactly what the car was doing. They weren't anything to special in a straight line but due to their lack of weight they were more than capable of embarassing a car 25 years younger than it how to drive through the twisty stuff including HSV's. The look on the drivers face as you overtake him in his current HSV on the the outside of a bend (dual lane).Priceless.
I also quite like the way look. The only car that really looks like them are the mark 1 Escorts.

Many things, the look, the sound, the feel, everything really
New cars feel too clinical. Everythings too precise, like you're playing a videogame. And everything works perfectly, 100% of the time. It's annoying.
There's nothing like having the lights die on you halfway through a midnight run of Macquarie Pass to let you know you're alive
It's perfectly capable of embarrassing cars 20 years newer through the bends as well, which is always good for a laugh. The look on the face of Joe Bogan in his XR8/SS as you pull away from him through the hills in your rattly old "Jap-crap" is hilarious

Re: your favorite thing about your car?
I bought my GB because I liked Galants, and that one was cheap. I kept it because I loved it. I sold it because it was wrecked.
I bought my Sigma because I wanted a 2.6 wagon with aircon, 4 wheel discs and the jap 5 speed.
I like it because I like the way it looks, and I like that it's not ubiquitous - I see the occasionaly Sigma wagon, very occasionally I see a red one, but I've never seen another wagon that looks like mine. I wouldn't be upset if there were more around, but I like that my daily driver is mine - it's not something I built or bought to "fit in" with a crowd.
It's not all that fast, it doesn't handle particularly well (I do miss my GB ) but it's a handy daily driver which I can leave anywhere without worrying about it.
So - not any particular "favourite" thing, but a few things I do like about it.

Sigma - The fact no one else has one the same as mine, its also pretty unique i find with its condition.
Galant - Like coupes, its stylish... sounds mad and has its old ways... no one knows what the fuck it is 'is it a datto???' and the fact im probably the only one in a 100k+ radius plus with one

What is it with all unidentified old-skool japanese cars being "dattos"?
I had somebody (my age) call my Sigma a "datto" last year. WTF?

Re: your favorite thing about your car?
Ohhh, so many things!! =D Lol
First of all; Appearance. ^_^ I love how my car looks. =] The shape... size... even the colour =] It's so easy to spot when ya take it anyplace (ie; AGFEST (TAS) - soooo many cars, and such a huge parking lot... takes ages to find your car - but with mine, it takes a few minutes.
It stands out - sure to catch ya eye..!
I mean, come on... when your driving along the highway, whats more likely to make you sit up and pay attention? Another everyday commodore/falcon/pulsar/corolla/whatever heading toward you/over-taking/following you... or a classic car?
Size - Small. Can park it just about anywhere. =P
Power/Speed - People laugh at my car because it isn't as powerful or fast as their new cars... well, it certainly does the legal speed limit easily enough... so why would it really NEED to go any faster? - I've had it to 100miles (approx 160KM) - not bad for such a little, old car! =]
She also has great "get up and go" - SO easy to over-take! =] - Love it when someone overtakes and goes 'speeding off', most likely thinking smart-arsed comments about your car... and you can speed up and stick with them the who rest of the way... making them take back their thoughts =D Or at least makes you feel... accomplished(?)
Feel - as kirkstanton said; "when you push the accelerator the car doesn't just move, you FEEL the engine under your foot, you can feel the vibration from the revs in the pedal." - I couldn't agree more! FEELING your car is so much better than the smooth NOTHINGNESS of modern cars.
Pride - knowing that I've personally been able to do something to my car (in this case; I helped dad convert from auto to manual, and put new gearbox and motor, etc in.). My car intrigues me, and although I don't really know anything about it I really wanna learn... so whenever dad is doing something to my car - even just changing fuel filter or something - I like to be a part of it, too. Although, most of what I learn seems to be forgotten by the next day... but I'm sure if I was able to repeat the process it'd come back to me... I hope. O.O
Sound - Loud, but not. Make sense? No? ... Didn't think it would, either. ^_^ But I know what I mean... =D haha
RWD.
Indicators. I know that sounds weird.. but they are soo bright! =D haha. Honestly, if I ever lost my lights and night, I'd be able to drive home easily just by using my indicators XD
And my break lights are so BRIGHT! On long drives home from my partners house at night I generally amuse myself by seeing how fast I can dip my headlights (trying to beat the car coming toward me - be the first to dip), or by tapping the brakes lightly every now and then, just so I can laugh when the entire road behind me lights up =D lol. - yes, I'm somewhat easily amused
Unique. Or so I thought before finding this forum I've only ever seen two Galants other than this one... and I've got both of them =P The white 'organ donor', and another that i got for parts off a mate (an old rally car). =] On the road though..? ... Never seen another one!
Reliability. in the 30+ years that it has been around.. (as far as I know) it's had less problems than any of their NEW cars, that they've only had for a year or two. Although, NEVER tell your car it is reliable! The two times I did that were the only two times that it ever 'broke down' :S
SO many people laugh at my car, whether it be because of its age, lack of "power"/"speed", or appearance... but I just laugh at them. Who wants a computerized pile of plastic *cough* ie; Commodore *cough* when they could have a REAL car?!

Re: your favorite thing about your car?
I like grabbing second, having the front lift, rear end squat and then light the tyres while going f*cking whoosh past other cars
Super dorifto with the locked scorp rear and the simple fact that the car is a bit of handfull to drive and does only what you tell it. If you end up facing the wrong way its your fault not the car, it give really good feedback through the steering(for a steering box anyway) and the rear end will cut as loose as you want depending on throttle position.
Also it just looks bad ass. Great colour too. Sounds like a car should.
