Re: what ECU for astron turbo?
they are the way they are because they are DIY, i have one of the new surface mounted versions going in the sig it cost about 500 delivered, im mid way through installing one on my subaru aswell. they are time consuming, but if you buy one prebuilt there not much more than anything else. the way i l...

Re: E10
the e10 here is advertised as 94RON. we have some 98RON e10 available at some servos aswell.
the 94 isnt much better than 91 as the ethanol leans out the mix a little. the E10 98 is good stuff though

Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?
i had a garrett t25 as the first turbo on my sigma. it was on full boost (13 PSI) by 2000 and ran out of flow around 3500. then i ran a ebay t3 and that hit 18psi around 2800 and made 209kw... if your after a no lag situation maybe look at a variable vane turbo off a large diesel (around 4-5L capaci...

Score!!!
i bought an engine from the wrecker and it had the same. went back to the car and rumaged through it and found a sticker from southcotts engines with the kms wen it was done, i worked out the rebuild was only 30,000 old till the numnuts rolled it. WIN

Re: cracked block
i dont think so, but a shield underneath aswell to sheild the actual block from direct heat would help.
i am wrapping or hpc coating my manifold when i get to that stage. also for engine bay temps, they go through the roof with all that non shielded turbo gear and no vents

Re: cracked block
yes, thats where they crack because of the high temp difference with coolant on one side and a red hot exhaust on the other.
if they had a heat shield there i dont think they would crack, or if they had a thicker cast like the later models they are better aswell

i ran a cheap std headgasket at 20psi for about 10,000kms worth of driving, had no issues with it. 30psi is a litle different though, but you can always try it. im using a monotorque branded gasket for the new engine which im chasing 300rwkw from. if it fails ill let you know. but its still in the b...

i dont think so, they will probably let us use the skid pan for a while though.
we also have a full skidpan drift day on friday at the canberra circuit, there is one spot left, but no burnouts there but drift as much as you want to.

everything is compatible, just make sure that the 2.6b is a narrow block from an auto or it wont bolt on to the 2L gearbox

in my case e85 has proven to be safer (more resistant to detonation)and noticeably more go go on the butt dyno

Re: E85 fuel
im no expert on it, but in my legacy and the sigma you can throw timing at it and it does go better than straight 98. its similar to 102 race fuel that i used once. so if you can retune the ign and fuel then its worth it in my view, although the economy goes to complete crap. not as good as VP109 th...

i wish it would be, but with low comp, 800cc injectors and 25PSI running E85 i think ill be lucky to get 350-400 kms to a tank.panda wrote:And if you get the EFI tune correct, it will be even more economic to run, even driven hard.

id be very interested to hear how it goes, this box is in need of some new syncros and bearings. if theres any worthwhile mods while its apart then ill do that aswell.
out of interest, how much bigger are the internals on the wide jap box? is it just the shafts or the gears aswell?

wideband is a meter used to measure the exact fuel ratios in the engine, if you cant make sense of the site (yes its quite confusing to me aswell to find info there) then the unit may be over your level of understanding.
