Re: Cottees' 1987 Sigma GN GSR Super Edition
For the last 2 weeks, I have been doing little bits and pieces when I have had time etc. I started putting all the steering gear back together. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4958_zps274c7c83.jpg The pitman arm was a pain to get out. Got it out after a lot of swearing. Th...

Re: Cottees' 1987 Sigma GN GSR Super Edition
Don't use masking tape though, use fine line tape as it will leave a sharper edge and shouldn't bleed. I used painter's tape, and did an ok job. There is better tape I can get, so will try that one next time. Started putting things back into the Sigma. Got one of the Starion struts in as well as th...

Re: Cottees' 1987 Sigma GN GSR Super Edition
I braved the 4.5C temperature outside and took the masking tape off. Since the Plasti Dip was dry, and pealed off the masking tape fairly flat, it came out ok. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4865_zps230a5049.jpg http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4...

Quick spray of the front chassis for more protection. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4845_zps2338389a.jpg Tried to use some Plasti Dip to make some pin striping. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/845/4l6t.png While you are at it you may as well fit some new engine mounts..I put a set of these urethane mounts in my wagon today. Prick of a job because of the turbo /turbo plumbing and wot-not. Lot easier if you already have the crossmember out 8-) After ge...

Re: Cottees' 1987 Sigma GN GSR Super Edition
The Starion control arms are slightly longer than the Sigma ones. That with the steering knuckle being at a different offset, the camber will end up out a little. Since it is only a little bit, it isn't too bad. That, and the angle will make for better cornering. As for Sigma vs Lancer stuff, they l...

If I were green I would die da ba dee da ba dai :P Nup, Starion struts, not green struts! Have the springs and the callipers painted. Just another coat or so to fix up any missed spots, and they should be ready to go. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4736_zps118ddc49.jpg C...

Got the Starion strut stuff out of storage. The almost complete one just needs a good clean, and a respray for the spring. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4690_zpsb836d5e2.jpg The rest needs cleaning up etc. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4694_z...

Re: Cottees' 1987 Sigma GN GSR Super Edition
Cleaned up the lower control arms, and the left one didn't look quite right. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4680_zpsfea0e34b.jpg Looks like the left one is a little bent. I have a set of LCAs from a Starion, so will probably end up using them. http://i620.photobucket.com/...

Re: Power Steering
Saying you drove a Hyundai and hence don't like assisted power steering is like me saying I listened to Justin Bieber and hence don't like music. It has been a while since I have driven my LC, but I don't remember the steering being too heavy at all. That was with a freshened front end and 14x6 Glob...

The GN is now on stands ready for some work on the steering.
And just a double check to make sure all the parts are ready.

Re: Cottees' 1987 Sigma GN GSR Super Edition
I moved the Sigma and Lancer from the front of the house. Not a moment too soon. The Lancer was almost swallowed by weeds. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_4640_zps1d80ab2d.jpg Now they are in a better position to be worked on. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cotte...

Re: Galant in the Targa Tasmania!
That is really sad to hear. Luckily it was just the engine and not anything worse. Looks like it was on Leg 2, TS15 that the engine failed. That was the second to last stage for the day.

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/Cottees/Sigma/IMG_0672_zpse6ba80f0.jpg I was down at U-Pull-It, so I was looking at other cars. I saw that the 2WD Triton, around 90-91, it had a similar power steering setup as the Sigma. The outlet for the pump was a beefier connection, so I grabbed the pu...

Thanks for the suggestion. There isn't too many Triton/L200/D50 owners here, so a dedicated section may not be worth it. But then again, opening a section might bring more people to the forums, which is always a good thing. Myself and the admin team will have a look into this idea, and try and come ...

Yep, it is a purge valve. One side goes into the charcoal canister, the other into the throttle body. It opens up when the throttle opens up to burn excess petrol vapour.Sigmaproject wrote:
