Re: The imported jap-spec GJ GSR 1984 (aka my baby)

I am no expert, but yes, Relays do deal with high voltages. if there was a short in the relay, it might melt the relay, melt the relay holder, melt things around it, but it wouldn't be enough to melt things on the other side of the engine bay. The only way to get that kind of heat and fire damage to...

Re: The imported jap-spec GJ GSR 1984 (aka my baby)

If it was a fuel leak which was ignited by an electrical fault, it is still his fault since he would have done the fuel lines. I am not 100% sure, but I don't think a faulty relay would do that much damage. But yeah, legal way is the best way. Even though it wouldn't be as satisfying, it'll still be...

Re: The imported jap-spec GJ GSR 1984 (aka my baby)

The IRS should mount to the Aus-Spec Sigma. You might need to weld in rear strut towers for the rear shockers. But, wrecking the car isn't the answer. Flav fixing it is. If you were wrecking it, I'd like the wheels, but you can't wreck it! It is such an awesome car!

Re: The imported jap-spec GJ GSR 1984 (aka my baby)

He was the last one that was working on it before it caught fire, and if you did no work to it yourself, or had anyone else touch the engine bay, then it obviously is something he did. It's not like your car was on fire, or caught fire, before Flav worked on it. I can see now that even before you ge...

Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?

First line on the left is the surge line, when boost starts. Middle Line is max boost. and right most line is the choke line IIRC. The calculations I use were based on what was said at the Garrett website. After seeing the quad turbo thread, I was thinking that the turbo charger I have lying around ...

Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?

As a base to work out flow rates etc. to match my engine to a turbo charger, I went with ~8 PSI (apparently for ~160kW), 12:1 air/fuel, and of course a 2.6L engine. Numbers I got were 1.63 Pressure Ratio, 13.95 lb/min (201.88 cfm) @ 2000 rpm and 23.65 lb/min (342.25 cfm) @6000 rpm. I think the SOHC ...

Dismantle of a TR/TS Throttle body problems

At the moment I am having trouble with the throttle body I picked up from U-Pull-It. I have been trying to remove the fast idle air valve assembly from the rest of the throttle body so I can give the rest of it a good clean, and get a closer look to how it all works. The trouble I have been having i...

Re: Legalities of an EFI conversion

My plans for my EFI conversion on my GN Sigma is I am using the 2.6L block it came with, putting on a Magna head, and keeping all of the emission control devices. I am going to be using an aftermarket ECU, but it is still possible to do it. The conversion I am doing is based on a TR/TS Magna, but th...

Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?

The TD05 look like a good option. It also looks to be cheaper than a disco potato. This would be good since I am on a shoe string budget. I also have some time to make a final decision since I am still in the middle of converting my Sigma to EFI.

That does look familiar. I picked up the car from just off Kilkenny Road IIRC. Since it had a tighter accelerator cable than my Sigma, I accidentally spun the wheels in the drive way.

I can't remember, I think it might have. I thought I had an engine bay pic of that car, but I can't seem to find it. I do remember it had a ram-flow air filter though. It also had power windows and central locking.

Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?

I did a heap of math using the guides and formulas on Garrett's website, and it looks like the Disco Potato would be the perfect match for the 2.6L. Now that I have decided on a turbo, I just have to try and afford it. I have plenty of other things I have to do first on my Sigma, so it isn't too muc...

Re: Manga Cruise control

I can't see why not. If you have a donor car, it would be much easier to take all the running gear from the Magna, and drop it into your Galant. I would recommend getting a Service and Repair manual for a Magna TR/TS. I would give it a try, and if it doesn't work right, you should be able to take it...

I have done even more reading over at www.megamanual.com and it shows that MegaSquirt II has 7 pins spare to use at outputs that can be activated or deactivated depending on what the other sensors are reading. Re: Megasquirt EFI

I have been doing some more reading, and it looks like that the stock ISC/IAC valve on the Magna TR/TS throttle body could be used. The GM IAC valve I think everyone has been using is a 4 pin bi-polar motor where as the one on the Magna is a 6 pin uni-polar motor. From what I can see, the uni-polar ...

I was thinking about making fibre glass panels for my Sigma GN. As for the doors, I would take out anything that is not needed that ...

I have a stock TR engine loom at the moment, but I am yet to do anything with it. If I am going to go straight to a Megasquirt, when I modify the loom, I'll do so with Megasquirt in mind, instead of trying to get it to connect to a stock ECU. I probably wont be ready for the ECU for 2 months+ anyway.

Doing a bit of research about the Megasquirt and the 4G54 stock sensors from the TR/TS Magna. Distributor - I think you can use the Magna one as a crank angle sensor. Air Flow Sensor - You can get Air Temp and MAF readings from it. MS can do MAP or MAF, just have to change the settings. Throttle Pos...
