So impressive. I was blown away when I saw this thread!
Good news for us Astron Drag racers!
I have to go lie down now. My head is buzzing with the possibilities.

Re: Astron aftermarket intake manifolds
I doubt you'd get something over here for less than $1000. Consider that it has the machined injector bosses and the fuel rail with AN fittings on there too. I agree that I have seen prettier ones but that's the only one I know of that is off the shelf. Paul Testa is probably the one to talk to, he ...

Re: Astron aftermarket intake manifolds
I'd be inclined to trust the way that Gato has made the injector mounts. A lot of their stuff is very, very quick. Your other option is to make a new top half for the magna manifold, but I don't reckon they look that bad. Excuse the yellow, here is mine: http://gaffamotorsport.com/Galant/wagon_164.j...

Only one I have seen thats ready made is from gato performance in Puerto Rico.
Other ones are custom fabricated.
The magna one does work though.

Re: Copper head Gasket
Happy to share my experiences David. The gaskets are cheap enough and if they work without the need for the o rings, then that is a bonus. Adding to that, I've also been happy using ACL hypereutectic pistons rather than full forged pistons. When something goes bad, it will melt the edge off, rather ...

Re: Copper head Gasket
I definitely didn't think that would work, especially on something with high compression. There is no forgiveness, if something is wrong, the pistons and the rod bearings will take the hit. Did you re torque after the initial assembly? I did roughly 1000kms and then retightened, it was fairly loose ...

Re: Copper head Gasket
In theory, it doesn't make sense for it to work. There is no ring to compress and clamp down like a regular gasket. There is no O ring to bite in. Did you ever strip it down? Was there any evidence of combustion leaking out? I used bolts for a long time in mine. The last rebuild I chucked in a set o...

Re: Copper head Gasket
Is your head and block O ringed? If they aren't O ringed then forget the copper gasket. Make sure you lay the gasket on the block and check that all the galleries match. Same with the head. I had to die grind a few out to open them up. Use a good sealant like 3 bond but get the correct grade for cop...

Re: Turbo: pros and cons
Your biggest trouble at 300hp will be the gearbox. The previous owner of my car used to daily drive it with 330hp. It had a ford toploader gearbox though behind an astron. It also has a ford 9 inch with billet axles. Engine wise, she runs fine and there is no hassle driving it around, even at 388hp ...

Seriously think about the SR20, it's a much better motor in so many ways and will cost virtually the same to do the conversion.

That's ok boys, There is always next month!
The numbers might be down a bit as it's getting cold but it has always been an awesome gathering with something for everyone. The variety and the quality of the cars that roll up are pretty awesome too.

Sydney: Harrys Cafe Liverpool Monthly Gathering - 25/5/13
Just a reminder to all of those sydney siders that the regular monthly meetup at Harry's Cafe Liverpool/orange grove is on this weekend. I'll be taking my wagon again and hope to see some of you blokes down there. If you don't have a car, I would still go for a look. Cars are there from sunset. We u...

Re: Best motor
I'm about to throw in my $1.50 worth to this conversation! First of all, there are no more capacity to weight limits in NSW. The RTA/RMS no longer can tell engineers what to do as they bear no liability. The enginerers bear the liability now. Some will stick to the old capacity limits but they are n...

Re: Dan's SPA57K GD Galant wagon and other Galants
Dan you have almost all that you need, a set of rods and pistons is all your bottom end will need then a bigger turbo and injectors and it will be a reliable 9sec car but much further then that you will start having issues with the head but there may be a way to solve that. Don't give up on the old...

Re: just bought a microtech, map plz?
You'd have to check with microtech as a 4g63 uses a crank angle sensor and the astron uses a dizzy, the signals are likely to be different.
Did you figure out what model you have?

Re: just bought a microtech, map plz?
Microtech will be fine, I run several on my cars and have no problems.
What was the ecu on before? You will more than likely have to have it sent to microtech to be conifgured to the style of dizzy that is used on a 2.6. Unless it was on a 4g motor already.

Re: Dan's SPA57K GD Galant wagon and other Galants
Mic, I'm at a crossroads at the moment. I either have to rebuild it with a stronger bottom end or change to something else. I love to fly the flag for the Astron but to go to the next step is going to need some serious cash. I think if I change to E85, and get around to putting the 2 link kit in it,...

See you on the next one!

Re: Dan's SPA57K GD Galant wagon and other Galants
Hey Mic, Yeah, E85 is the way forward for this car. My Tuner reckons it will make more power on it too. I'm going to need to re do the fuel system, put some bigger secondary injectors in it, it currently has 8x 13b turbo's. There is a fair bit of rubber hose in my system so it's probably time to get...

Re: Dan's SPA57K GD Galant wagon and other Galants
I can only cruise it around at the moment. It's still tuned on race fuel so it would ping and melt a piston if I gave it any boost. Self control is difficult! It is pretty quiet so I used to be able to putt around without too much trouble. Without the grill, no one knows what it is. I usually get pe...

Alright folks, put me down.
Owned galants for 15 years, my Yellow wagon appears on the banner of our beloved website but this will be my first Sigma-Galant cruise!
I think I'll just be going to the meet point, don't think a full spool and front runners are going to be smart on the windy roads!

Not out of the woods yet, driving it home yesterday, one of the pumps is making noises like the tank is empty. Either I have a blockage or its dying. Hopefully it just needs a bit of excercise.

Cheers Dave.
Funny you mention that, I just finished rebuilding the brakes and took it for its first drive 10 minutes ago. Might not make the whole cruise but I'll aim to make the meet point at least. Been 'resting' for 5 years now.77galantv6 wrote:Can we maybe see the wagon out there?
