Have a good read of this (and all his articles for that matter) http://www.grapeaperacing.com/tech/valvetrain.pdf
Explains the pros and cons and practical uses for hyd vs mech vs roller etc.
Has all the info most people will ever need to know about cams.
Make sure you order the pullys and chain AND gasket for it while your at it, they normally have everthing but the pullys in stock, they take a week or so from Japan. I dont know of any cast iron versions, all the canter and forklift pumps i have seen and own are alloy. Good point rally 2.6, the lowe...
One of the pros is you can go back to the Oil pumps these motors were designed to run, the oil pumps the astrons used before the balance shafts were invented. :) I have not done a back to back dyno, But im told you also gain some significant HP with these pumps over the gear style pump, the gear sty...
There must have been some assembled of the coupes in oz with the valiant badges etc on them? OR did they badge them in Japan for chrysler? They also have only 2 leafs in the reat rather than a 3 pack leaf spring setup as they did in Japan, ortho im sure they could have specked that to b done in Japa...
Are those catalogues and mags etc Australian? Maybe the GDs were import? Im pretty sure there were GD Coupes also. I had 3 GC coupes at one stage, 2 were auto and 1 was manual, the manual DID have a smaller tranny tunnel. I know because ortho it was the best body of the lot I sold it and chose to re...
Good find, would be interesting to see how easy one could go in. If interested i may be persuaded to part with my starion rear end. i wrecked a starion a while back and i kept the IRS and i also cut out the rear end and kep that, I had ideas about IRS in my galant. I sold the struts form it tho,. an...
The main reason im so attached to the brown one is that it still has original reg! and nice Black # plates!
im going to restore it in gun metal Grey and stick the black interior i have in it.
Thats OK GC 75, but its far from sleak, its actually bad respray brown thats pealing and flaking and dented up, and rusting up!
a restore is not far away.
But i also have a white GC coupe I like almost all mits in white
id love to get my hands on an 8A80 one of these days! nice twin turbo V8 galant coupe :), i think there the same weight as the V6s and only a tiny bit longer, so should fit no probs. but to answer you q, i have no idea, what you should do, I dont think any options are super cheap. If you cant afford...
WHAT!

i searched and searched!
I ended up buying my GB coupe in NZ, and i still needs to ship it to Australia!
yet you have tracked down 2?
The oil pump on the US starions runs its pickup out the botom of the pump itself, down the front of the motor to the sump. The first design in 2.6 astron, pre astron 1, whats that? an astron 0 i guess :) was in the Canters and forklifts and had no balance shafts and much better oil pumps (nice to re...
Make that $300 I wonna see this 2.6 get done! :) I have owned both 2.6t and 4g63t cars and my vote is for the 2.6 Ortho i do like both, so much that im going to build my GB coupe with a 63t But there's something really special about the grunt of a 2.6 big block 4banger, absolutely shat all over my V...
Years ago there was a dude from Singapore of all places if i remember correctly, that had a GC galant with a DOHC motor and power steering, From memory he did a rack and pinion conversion.
Love it!, thats pretty much the colour I have been planing on painging my coupe for the last 7 years too!
I guess it will end up a 15 yr project for me too
