Re: woodgrain... yay or nay?
Looks "flat", yes? With timber veneer you won't get a very good finish unless you can apply enough even pressure. Now even if we could get your dash off and pop it into the vacuum press, it would collapse under the pressure, so the veneer would need to be glued to a substrate which could t...

Re: woodgrain... yay or nay?
But what I'm going to do (been saying this for too long now) is add extra gauges where the original radio position is and then cut proper veneer (not the cheap vinyl crap that is there now) and replace it and on the console to. I'm hoping to be able to match the colour to my steering wheel. Don't k...

Re: Tappet Help required
I'll check the compression for you next. It's had one sandpaper and petrol hand hone after a certain engine cooking incident many years ago... but we'll see.but you can make 105kw's on a stock bottom end with 10/1 comp so with the girly cam it should be a bit higher

Re: Tappet Help required
I'll have a play. I currently have access to a reasonable workshop (and helpful mechanic) through work (the local high school) so I'll start with a Holley, because I'm pretty sure there's one laying around, and work up from there. Could be a good project for the Auto class - manifold for twin carbs....

Better than twin mikuni carbs? Or is it as I thought? Two stock carbs can't be tacked together - different jetting, linkages, and "other stuff" required?

I never thought the Sigma was particularly macho, but now I find that it's had performance anxiety all these years.
Perhaps if I spray something into the carby it'll solve the problem.

Well, the internet is a wonderful thing. Fifteen years later and I found the guy who rebuilt the engine originally.
He said the cam was sent to Wade cams so I'll try them for the spec's.

Grind 713 (whatever that is) and recommended clearances (which I'd forgotten I had written down) 0.012 and 0.014
Comments? And does anyone know if the grind number refers to its specs?
It doesn't rate a mention in http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1737

Aah... the plastic sheets covering the garage walls rings a bell. And you tend to, somewhat sadistically, buy the el-cheapo ones which rip when they come into contact with, well, anything!
Conratulations, I like it. One of the neatest GHs I've seen.

Got spring compressors so will use them.
Have access to rattle gun, but will crack nuts on ground anyway.
Thank you all. I'm looking forward to it - I swear the skirt dips to the ground when I hit the anchors.

Any pitfalls for the 1st time front strut insert changer?
G'day,
I've got GH "green" struts on the front. Last time I paid someone to do it, but this time I have spring compressors... so let's have a bash.
Any obvious pitfalls for the first timer in changing the inserts?
Cheers guys, your greater experience is much appreciated.

Yeah, coz it literally could be anything. I'd hooked the alternator wires up wrongly and the battery last about two days each time. Resorted to an auto elec. Dave's idea sounds eminently sensible.

Can't it run on if the timing's too far advanced? Although that's usually a stumbling sort of a run on, not happy about it.

It starts to get confusing when it's a Galant, with Sigma engine, GH interior, GH front struts and brakes, Triton bonnet....
Make that and enquiry about GH discs posted to Melbourne.
