Re: Aftermarket gauge wire up

yes, that's right, that's what I'm saying.
Just put an in-line fuse on the positive, not a permanent positive but an ignition positive.
You can even put an in-line switch in it if you want.
The body is a common earth, touch any part of it and it's a negative.

Re: Quick questions regarding fuel filter..

One of the guys I work with had a mystery problem like this in his GTR Torana recently. He replaced all ignition leads, got the carby re-built and replaced the coil and plugs. Had the same problem. Was pulling his hair out. Ended up the guy who re-built his carby f--ked up the float level in the car...

Re: Aftermarket gauge wire up

So all you need to know is how to wire up the lights in the gauges by the sounds? GE/GH: should have a reasonable size relay mounted near the battery which controls your lights. interior/dash lights are taken from the same place as the tail lights. how stripped is the car? should be able to trace a...

Re: Quick questions regarding fuel filter..

If the float level is to high, then the needle and seat will be in the open position all the time. Then it will flood your motor whenever you turn it off. Would also make it run rich and waste fuel. If the float level is to low, then the needle and seat will be in the closed position most or all the...

Re: Continuous +12v wiring.

Yes you need a fuse.
You're better to run a wire for the constant straight to the battery, then you don't get interference or power drop when what ever else is on the circuit is running. eg if you hooked it too your wipers, or blinkers.

Re: new to this site, old school car enthused, ready to drive!

I've always wondered what galant rims would look like widened with caps, never seen them. My brother has a mk2 cortina and it had the standard 13 inch rims widened to 7 inches and chromed. They've got massive offset as well. Unfortunately he took them off and put the 14x6 performance rims as driftfo...

You may be interested in what I've done with my Galant. Recaro runner tracks are the same distance apart as Galant/ Lancer seats. All I did was re-drill holes to suit the Recaros. No engineer cert needed no welding. The Recaros I have use 6 bolts to the rails instead of 4. I took some of the nylon s...

If you want the lights to work just hook them up to an ignition positive. Then they will turn on every time you turn on the ignition. Why do you want them on, are you going to be racing at night? now how do i wire them up? i no where they go under the bonnet but im stumped as to where they wire up t...

I think it look alright from the back, but the front bumper has a lot of curves on an otherwise square/ boxy shaped car. Re: Steering Wheel Boss Kits LB Lancer

The pins they supplied to make the blinkers cancel out were to big, so I had to take them out. Anyone else found this?
I also had a gap from the base of the boss to the steering column surround. Had to make a spacer to cover the gap.

Re: 2.6 pajero power steering

You need a steering box that is designed for power steering.
You might have one half of the set up but you need the other as well.

You would probably have to convert your steering to rack and pinion?

Re: flat spot on accelleration

New gaskets would be the best way. Don't use silicone sealers, they don't work on fuel systems. You could use a gasket sealer like permatex but it's not ideal. A Carby kit would be the best way to fix your problems. and maybe get yourself a new mixture screw. What happened to the carby off your old ...

Re: flat spot on accelleration

sounds like you have a bad vacuum leak or your mixture screw is set wrong. Most likely the mixture screw. If it runs better with the choke on then it sounds like it running lean. I'd try screwing the mixture screw out to enrich the mixture. Take a note of how many turns from fully closed the mixture...

Re: Continuous +12v wiring.

Get yourself a test light.
There will be constant positive, ignition positive and earth ( or neutral)
put the constant positive straight to the battery with a fuse.
put the ignition positive to a positive that onlt turns on with the ignition (hence the test light)
and the earth to the body.
Done.

Re: flat spot on accelleration

what is your timing set at?
are your points clean, without spike and gapped right?
Do you have your mixture screw set right? (I saw a post with you playing with it)
Is your distributor tightened?
It's hard without being able to play with it and see how it responds.....
Hope this helps.. :)

Re: new to this site, old school car enthused, ready to drive!

Check the wear on the shafts for the butterflies. If they are worn they will leak air and cause a vacuum leak (bad). Other than this a carby kit will fix everything as well as a good carby tune. I tried to buy a new diaphram for the vacuum secondary and they are unavailable from fuel miser (maker of...

Re: new to this site, old school car enthused, ready to drive!

How mechanically minded are you? Do you have a workshop manual? You can buy carby kits for the standard carb easy. They're not hard to put in. You might just have shit in the needle and seat. 10L to do a hundred kms is a little excessive. 8.5 to 9L would be more like it. Give it a tune up. Clean the...
