Speedo Ratio Box (or Adapter Box)
Hi Guys, Wanting to install a Ratio Box (or adapter box as they are sometimes called) to compensate for a taller diff in the Lancer. The original diff was a 3.89:1 (I think) and the newer diff out of a Scorpion is close to 3.30:1. At an indicated 80 kph on the speedo, the actual speed is closer to 9...

Re: 4G54 Engine Identification
Thanks Guys,
Engine and gearbox are in an LA Lancer. The 5-speed gearbox came from a wrecker, who said it was from a Galant, but I didn't see the donor car. I know that the 5-speed replaced the factory original 4-speed, with the gear lever position unchanged and no need to modify the centre console.

4G54 Engine Identification
Hi Guys, Had a quick look at the Ultimate Topic Directory and the post "How to Read a Serial on an Astron Block". I've got M531R12345 stamped on my block, so it looks like it is: 5 = 2.6l 3 = Silent Shaft North South 1 = Auto R = Year of manufacture (ab '83-'84) 12345 = Serial No. (not act...

Re: LA Lancer - Rear Guard Flaring Needed?
Thanks for the offer, but I'm in Sydney. Will probably get someone local to roll the rear guards.

LA Lancer - Rear Guard Flaring Needed?
Hi Lancer Fans, I’ve got the Lancer back after getting a Scorpion diff fitted and the springs lowered slightly. As I suspected, the tyres now protrude beyond the guards, and the tyres rub going over bumps. (The car is running 14” Sigma mags with 195/60R14 tyres.) I might need to get the guards flare...

Re: Scorpion Diff Ratios
Thanks again.
Taller diff - great for travelling on the freeway to a hill climb; not so good for the hill climb itself.

Re: Scorpion Diff Ratios
Thanks for the info.
If I've understood, I'd need to find an 8 bolt diff out of a manual GE Scorp to keep the same 3.9:1 ratio?
And if I went with a taller diff , I'm guessing the speedo will read lower than the true speed. Does this mean a new speedo cable?
Thanks,

Scorpion Diff Ratios
Hi Folks, After 450,000 km on the original LA Lancer diff, it's time for an upgrade. The Scopion diff into the early Lancer has been done before, and I would like to keep the 3.89:1 diff ratio. Does anyone know the diff ratios used in Scorpions, both manual and auto? I've heard of ratios from 3.3:1 ...

Hubcap ID Requested
Hi Guys, I found a set of four hubcaps under the house, and it's so long since I've seen them I can't remember which car they came off. I think they belonged to the LA Lancer, but maybe someone else can identify them. Hopefully the image attaches but if not http://www.flickr.com/photos/87113310@N07/...

Re: LA Lancer drum brake repair/upgrade.
Thanks Scorpma82. That's an option I wasn't aware of. If I've understood correctly, it sounds like: 1) The 1st gen Magna discs will bolt up to the original diff. 2) The existing cable operated handbrake will operate on the Magna calipers. If so, it seems like the best option without going to a Sigma...

LA Lancer drum brake repair/upgrade.
Hi Members, RE: LA Lancer drum brake repair/upgrade. I'm looking to repair the drums on my LA Lancer because the adjusting latch teeth have worn and no longer engage. (I'm sure this is an issue others have encountered.) My preference is to keep it simple and stay with drum brakes and the original di...
