Re: rust removal and prevention.
I agree with Glant, it is important to weigh up the costs and benefits of various rust repair techniques. If you are going to spend a lot of money on a new paint job, then it would be silly not to have the panels properly repaired or replaced. If a panel requires replacement, and I choose to treat i...

Re: motor position sensor
Thanks for your help, Galant_GTO. I am glad that it is not the ISC. I have had issues in the past with crud in the fuel tank, which damaged the original fuel pump. I had the tank flushed, and the injectors cleaned, as well as had a new fuel filter fitted. The fuel pump was also replaced. I am guessi...

Re: motor position sensor
I did a bit more digging, and realised the page I used to look up the fault code had shortened the name.
It is actually a 'Idle speed control (ISC) motor position sensor fault.'
Is this likely to cause the problem I have had?
Cheers,
Alan.

motor position sensor
G'day, I have a HG galant, that has misfires or hesitates under load, normally between 2000 and 3000 rpm. I checked for stored error codes on the ECU, and found a code 15, which I think is the 'motor position sensor'. I had to use information I found for the eclipse, as I could not find anything abo...

Re: Fuel flow question
G'day, It is probably more valuable to test the fuel pressure using a fuel pressure gauge. You will need to confirm the required pump pressure, but I believe the original pumps were rated at 19.6-28kpa I had issues with my fuel pump, and it turned out the tank was full of crud, so it is worth inspec...

Re: hg fuel pump removal
G'day, Now that the pump is out, I have had a good look at the inside of the fuel tank. The tank is covered in a white crusty layer, that looks a bit like salt crystals. I think the original lining has degraded because the car sat for a few years without use. It may also be due to E10 fuel I used (I...

Re: hg fuel pump removal
I figured it out.
You need to remove the drain plug type bolt that is on the bottom of the tank, directly under where the fuel pump is.
If the fuel pump was not attached to that bolt, it would be easy to remove the pump without draining the tank. The design is a bit of a nuisance.
Cheers,
Alan.

hg fuel pump removal
G'day, My fuel pump is playing up, and I am trying to get the old one out of the tank. The pump is in the rear of the tank, and is accessed from underneath the car. I have removed the retaining screws, but I am only able to pull the pump out about 1/2 an inch. Is there a trick to getting the pump ou...

fuel injectors
G'day, I was just wondering if anyone knew the difference between INP-050s and INP-051s. I found information on the INP-051s, they are 210cc. I wanted to replace the injectors on my galant, and was given a set of injectors from a hyundai sonata. Both engines are 4g63, so why the different injector t...

Re: Revving Problem!
Are the revs going up and down continuously? If so, you may have a vacuum leak. Check the intake manifold gasket, the plenum gasket, and the throttle body gasket. Also inspect the vacuum hoses. If you have a butane/lpg torch, you can carefully spray some gas around the manifold while the engine is r...

Re: HG Galant miss fire
I may have found the problem. It turned out to be something extremely simple in the end. The car began to miss fire more frequently, and had poorer throttle response. I opened the bonnet, and realised that the HT lead from the coil to the centre of the distributor had come loose. I pushed it back on...

HG Galant miss fire
G'day, I apologise if this question has been asked already, I tried to search for similar posts. I have a 1989 HG Galant, N/A 4g63 SOHC. The car sat for a few years before I recently got it registered. The car had numerous problems, and I have fixed most of them. In the process I had to fit a new in...
