GJ Sigma Heater Valve Tap

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a suitable replacement for a GJ Heater Valve Tap. Mine is frozen and as a result always blows freezing cold air into the cabin. I did have a look at the Gates website for an aftermarket one : http://www.gates.com/australia/brochure.cfm?brochure=5128&loca...

Re: 82 GJ Wipers Problem

Thanks for that info, it's greatly appreciated. I always had a sneaking suspicion there'd be a relay somewhere, but with it not being mentioned at all in the gregorys book I was perhaps relaying too heavily on it (rather than just following my instinct). I'm picking up my sigma from my old man's pla...

Re: Sigmas are becoming scarcer

In Tamworth (NSW) there's at least 4 that I know of that I see doing the rounds on a regular basis. The other week while doing some errands around town (and it's something I should've got a photo of) there were 3 sigmas all in a row at a set of traffic lights. White GL turning left, my blue GJ going...

82 GJ Wipers Problem

G'day Everyone, I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar to the one I'm experiencing with my wipers on my 82 GJ. When you move the wipers stalk to "intermittent" ..... nothing happens. Move the stalk to either lo and hi and the wipers will move at the appropriate speed. There's als...

Diff Plug Info

G'day Everyone, i thought someone might find this useful ... after calling all of my local wreckers in search of a diff filler plug for my GJ ... and being told by Mitsubishi the part was no longer available (and no wreckers being of help). Finally, one of the local wreckers told me that VM to VS co...

GJ sigma - headlight covers

G'day Guys, Sorry for the stupid question, I recently purchased some headlight covers for my '82 GJ sigma (I have the model # at home, will post later). I had a go at the weekend at trying to get the blazin things on, but couldn't work out how to get them to fit. I was just wondering if anyone knows...

Re: temp guage not working

Just to update everyone on this one ... this is what I found out. Problem was with the temp sender unit ... the test for this being fault is to earth or connect the sender unit wire onto the engine with the ignition set to ON (but not the engine running). If the gauge moves up to HOT then you know i...

Re: Temperature Sender Unit - Replacement -- Temp Gauge Hotter ?

Question is ... is it actually running any hotter than before ? or is the gauge just saying it is ? If nothing else has been changed, it's probably running at the same temperature it always was. I'm guessing the latter, but I've been wrong before. Is there anyway to test that the engine is *not* ge...

Re: Temperature Sender Unit - Replacement -- Temp Gauge Hotter ?

buy a varible resistor and fit it in the single wire of the sender wiring, when the engine is up to opperating temperature, move the resistor untill the gauge reads as it would have prevoiusly, and dont touch it again. or just buy the correct sender for the sigma gauge I like the idea of the variab...

Re: Temperature Sender Unit - Replacement -- Temp Gauge Hotter ?

I just realised I forgot to mention, the aftermarket sender unit (Champion branded) is slightly longer in its probe part (the part which sits inside the engine) than the original sender unit (approx 2-3mm longer). I just checked on the champion website (which annoyingly required me to become a membe...

Re: Temperature Sender Unit - Replacement -- Temp Gauge Hotter ?

Yeh mate, that's what I was thinking. Who knows how long the old sender unit had been on the way out for. Unfortunately, I didn't even think of measuring the resistances of the old and new sender units (mental note for next time). I'm hoping tomorrow to get a chance to give the car a good run (open ...

Temperature Sender Unit - Replacement -- Temp Gauge Hotter ?

G'day Everyone, Last week my temp gauge stopped working. So I purchased an aftermarket temp sender unit, put it in, had a cold beer, ran the engine for a couple of minutes to check the gauge actually worked (which it did), then sat back and watched the footy. However, I noticed this morning on the w...

Re: temp guage not working

Yeh, am tossing up whether its the gauge or the thermostat. I was of the thought that since the gauge *does* move then its working properly. But I've run into trouble before with this idea (I ran my wife's car out of fuel one day as the gauge was moving, but wasn't moving accurately). My bro was jus...

Re: temp guage not working

Yeh, that's what I was thinking too mate.

Just to re-inforce ... the guage does actually move ... it moves a cm from Cold stop then it doesn't ago any higher regardless of how long I let the old girl idle for.

Does this help @ all?

temp guage not working

G'day Lads, Guys, I've got an odd one here. I noticed this afternoon while driving around town on my way home from work that my temperature guage wasn't working correctly. Normally, the gauge rises up to the middle of the first stop (the first stop above the Cold stop) on the temperature gauge or a ...

Re: Converting Sigma Lights from Halogen to HID

It will be a matter of cutting single plug of end of loom, working out HI/LOW/Earth wires and simply wiring a H4 plug (available from Repco, Bursons etc) onto the loom. I wouldn't bother cutting the existing harness. Buy a few of these harnesses and just plug into the existing wiring. The HID syste...

They arent HIDs they are just normal halogen globes with coloured lenses. Re: Car hesitates when you stab the throttle.?

If you turn on electrical accessories one by one (ie. wipers, cabin a/c fan, aux radiator fan, spotties, blah blah) you'll notice that as you turn on each device the revs will drop (sometimes 100rpm per device). If you've got to turn quite a few on at once, you have to rest your foot gently on the ...

Converting Sigma Lights from Halogen to HID

I was wondering if anyone has worked out a way of putting HID lights into their sigma? I've upgrade all of my other cars, but they've all used the new modern H4 and H1 (or H3) connectors which most new cars have. This is the first vehicle I've attempted it to where the wiring has been different. The...

For this interested, if anyone is, I managed to get this working by replacing the blown fuse (the original was 15A, but I replaced it with a 10A). Re: Ok, has ANYONE done a GJ SE auto to manual???

No probs, for one thing you'd know if it was reading faster than your actual speed.

My falcon ute reads 5km/h fast when I'm doing 100km/h. I didn't even twig until I went for a drive on the Newell and had semi's piling up behind me ... grabbed the ol' GPS and confirmed it for me.

Re: Ok, has ANYONE done a GL/GE SE auto to manual???

Guess I'll just have to get someone to drive beside me and yell out what there's reads compared to mine :stupid:
Why not borrow someone's GPS and put it on its "Speed setting", they're not 100% accurate, but will give you an idea of how close you are either way.

Re: Car hesitates when you stab the throttle.?

My sigma has this exact same prolem. The problem can be brought on moreso if you're running additional accessories. For example, with it in neutral (and with the automatic choke worn off), the engine will happily idle @ 900rpm. If you turn on electrical accessories one by one (ie. wipers, cabin a/c ...

Re: sigma clearance lights (front L&R bumpers)

G'day,
I tried the WD-40 trick last night, but it didn't help ... still no illumination.

So my only option is now to try to remove these bonnet indicators ... any tips on how it's done?

It looks like it ain't going to be easy.

Thanks for all the help :-)

Cheers,
