Re: ddt's 1979 GE sigma wagon 'LIL RED WGN'
I haven't had much time to spend on the wagon lately, I haven't even started it up for months. Battery needed a charge but started fine. I went and did some stuff while I let the engine warm up. Later i return about to put the bonnet down and go for drive and i notice a fine jet of fuel hitting the ...

Sigma Steering vagueness
Does anyone know how to fix the sigma's famous vague steering feel when going in a straight line? (GE and maybe GH?)
Wondering about toe-in/toe-out settings and whether those that have lowered their sigmas have noticed any changes?

They have quite cool proportions I...

A v8 is exactly what a sigma needs Damn you Mitsubishi you could have had a winner if you had just slotted in a V8 like a 318 yes- it would have saved you all that work. :P I reckon if the oil crisis in the mid seventies (and again in 1980) weren't so bad, Chrysler Australia would have been in busi...

Sigma drawings
There's already a thread with some sigma drawings, but that thread was intended for galant pics and is in the galant section so i thought the sigma section deserves it's own one too! Well, the family and kids are overseas for 6 weeks which means i can waste time doing 'unproductive' stuff like polis...

Hi Nicki, Welcome to the site -i also do some drawing and was gonna do graphic design or industrial design or something till dad talked me out of it -i must have drawn a zillion GE sigmas by now. (In fact we should have a sigma-galant art section). IMHO, I would keep the hubcaps -your GE is looking ...

hey there, nice wagon! I think the red wall idea with pepperpots should look good. I dig venetians too -do it! not sure about chunky white walls though as polished pepperpots are so bling already. try it out on photoshop first and see what you think. btw there are no leaf springs -coils all round. Hi there,
The 4sp capacity is 1.7L (2.3L for 5sp) recommended oil in Gregory's is Castrol HYP C80/90
same oil for diff (1.1L) and steering gear (0.26L)
Also Engine oil capacity is 3.8L add another half litre for the filter. Original oil spec was Castrol GTX.

For general gutless-ness I'd start by looking for vacuum leaks and checking your timing is OK. If she's drinking heaps of oil then there's a fair chance your plugs need a clean too.

Is it just the air-cleaner assembly that the bonnet fouls against? It looks pretty close to closing..
Personally, I'd prefer no scoop but it may look good if painted the same col as the bonnet?
You've done such a great job on that sig- can't wait to see her all finished!

i've got an old washing machine motor kicking around and i could borrow one of the big old Variac variable voltage transformers lying around at work to throttle the speed. i might try do something with that.
I've got a set of pepperpots to do as well after i'm done with the turbos.

Re: How to polish mag wheels
good info there guys.
I did buy that josco metal polishing kit (with sisal wheel and buff) but was disappointed. However after reading your experiences; i should really save that step until the rim has been well sanded first.
Any one used any acids?

the turbo rims and pepperpots have fine grooves on the surface- are these completely polished out to get them that shiny? Also what kind of clear-coat or wax have people tried on their rims? I have a set of turbo rims that were quite corroded and are taking a lot of time even with 180 grit wet/dry t...

There's a quality GE right there. I like the rims too. If you are doing the venetians thing and keeping her relatively unmolested I'd consider keeping the current plates -they are the right colour anyway and when you go to sell it, someone looking for a clean original GE would pay more fo...

I'd seen pics of this "interesting-looking" sigma before and i'd always thought it was based on a 2nd gen GJ sigma but now i realise it's actually a 1st gen GE/GH under there! it wasn't until i saw some interior shots, then a closer look at the exterior until i noticed.

Re: 16x8 rims on lancer
that looks really mint. I don't think it needs any more lowering, smithy. IMO, the only thing that could make it even minter (is that even a word?) is maybe seeing if a machine shop can take 8-10mm from the front rim offsets to get those fronts tucked in a little more. Being offroad rims there shoul...

looks like there were only two bidders and they both wanted them bad. But i wonder whether either expected it to go that high cos in the bidding history all the action happened in the last 30s. the GEs ran from ~oct 1977 until may 1979 and they made I think abt 95,000. Initially they were available in 3 different price points 'medium', 'high' and 'premium'. The medium had galant and sigma badges. The 1.6L Saturn with 4spd was the base model -however the 2L auto was optionable. the 'high' w...

i think u guys are right- there wouldn't be many people driving these 'clunkers' who would be in the market for a new car. Every time i see a dashboard pic of a GE i can't help but look at the plastic running just above the heater controls -99% of the time it's distorted. Yours appears perfect though! (just a neurotic thing i have..)

I've never owned a GA-GD galant but I probably find the GBs proportions most pleasing. I also dig the twin round lamps front treatment. But i also really like the A57 GDs too. Did GBs also have similar options pack with decals etc? Also agree that you tend to like whatever you've been staring at for...
