Re: Help installing bearings
Righto! I bought a set of main bearings 5M1139 std some time ago and now the weather is warming up I thought I'd get stuck in. When I took the first bearing out it was Quite clean, no burn or anything. Still I thought I'd go ahead. When I compared shells the new one was a lot bigger than the one I t...

Re: Pros/Cons removing balance shafts
I've been gone awhile Anyway I fixed the hi-ace and started on the sigma gj auto wagon. The oil light came on and I have taken the sump off and checked the big end bearings and three of the main bearings. So far there are no score marks or burn marks on the shaft. The new oil was black after a few k...

Well the head from the hiace goes for a new face tomorrow so i started on the sig today. there is no gasket on the sump is this normal? The clean new oil i put in is black after a drive round the block. There are two small pieces of metal in the sump, looks flaky. So, i took off the bottom of the fr...

Re: head gasket
Well it's actually called a valve spring compressor not a rocker spring compressor. Anyway none of the shops stock them . So....i improvised. I used a claw hammer and a bracket from a tv aerial . the one that clamps it to a pipe. like a exhaust pipe clamp only thinner. I slipped it under the rocker ...

Re: head gasket
My new gasket is protorque. it's black with red trim. I tried to get the manifold off in case it affected the head, I pulled it out still attached. Even when i could get at the difficult nuts between the inlet and outlet manifold there was one nut that defied all efforts to get a spanner on. It was ...

Re: Help installing bearings
It's a g j by the way. I did an oil change and filter change and put it castrol? magnetic oil but it made no difference. Why would I need an after market temp gauge? The car is stock standard. I think i'll take the sump off anyway and have a look first. Last time I did this was on a morris minor fif...

Only 68,000k on the clock. the interior is like new, but it had a ding in the back which is un-noticable. The bonnet needed a thin bit of rust fix...
