I have them on my car because they are period correct, I don't care if webers, EFI or anything else would make it go better.

I think you missed my point Dave, it certainly wasn't having a dig at your car or set up.
What I was trying to say was those carbs in the pic are near buggered and will cost a shitload to make operational again. For about the same cost you could get various brand new set ups, whilst the Efi setup would be modernising side draughts are also period correct

A clean up and a pair of carby kits would probably do it? Carb kits sell these days for about $65 each.

The problem I have with the carbs is:
Those carbs are missing the accelerator cable retainer and the ball cup joints and adjusters.
These carbs sets (in complete form) would have to be worth about $200 (give or take depending on condition). If they are missing anything then start dropping the price.

I ended up having to buy 2 sets incomplete sets to complete 1 set. It's an expensive (and perhaps stupid) way of doing it.

Note:
The thermostat housings are not interchangeable with anything else (you'd have to get it custom made). If it is missing, you have a problem.

That is a good reason to get the setup I saw on ebay. It is incomplete, but it does have the thermostat housing, and the rest could be used for parts.

I agree with both of you, to a point. Sidedrafts and the factory twins are both period correct, it would depend on the application as to which setup you went with.
If it was me, I'd use the factory twins if I was going for a "factory performance model" sort of look, and sidedrafts if I was going for a "period modified" look. Of course, that particular theory only applies to a primarily street-driven car, if you were building a car that would see a lot of track work or were chasing a bit more power then the sidedrafts win hands down.
EFI is a different story altogether, I'm not sure where it would fit in in my little theory. Maybe if you were going for a more "modern" look?
Performance doesn't really play a part in that theory, as you'd obviously go EFI turbo if you were after outright power.

good day sir..it really interesting reading this thread..i have the same set of carbs on my 4g32 engine..lately i manage to rebuild these carbs..however, after rebuilding it..i have a hard time tuning the carb..i wonder if the pilot jets namely( primary and secondary) as shown in the diagrams needs to be adjusted or they just need to be screwed all in or i have to back it a little.. moreover, i think i am running rich as of now..coz my exhaust smell of unburnt fuel.. should i adjust the idle air mixture screw to make it leaner?

hoping for some info..

hi..newbie here..can anyone help me how to do about the pilot jets (primary and secondary) i trying to tune my same set of carbs right now..and i have know idea how to set those pilot jets..do i have to screw them all through or i have to back it up a little..

any info on the matter is highly appreciated..

Hi All,
Just a newbie here, and kinda resurrecting an old thread.
I was told that the stock carb for my 4g32 is also a twin solex, but was then replaced with a single solex carb.
Can someone here help me identify which model of carb exactly is currently installed on my 4G32 engine?
Attached some photos of it. It's labeled Solex Mikuni Kogyo Japan, but I wanted to know which model exactly is it just to try and find some more info about it.
Aside from the problem that the secondary throttle does not open (just noticed it few days ago), the car actually runs pretty good now.
I can only reach 5K RPM at full throttle on neutral now though.

My car is a 4-door 1982 2nd gen Mitsubishi Lancer (GSR as per seller), just got it last year 2017.

I've also have some few more questions about my carb.
- does it have a mechanical or vacuum secondary? I don't see any diaphragm or any linkage around.
- could it be that for some reasons, the secondary barrel was intentionally disabled?
- I would like to revert it back to the stock carb which is the twin Solex Mikuni as the car seller still has it, would it be a good way to go?
- Or should I just keep the current carb and just try to fix the secondary?

Hi 4G32stockboi,
Sorry for the slow reply, I don't get on here as much as I used to.
The secondaries on the solex carbs are controlled by vacuum. Your carb does not appear to have a vacuum chamber. I believe this is your problem.
I'll have to have a dig around and see if I can find a complete standard carb to get some photos for you to show you what you are missing.

Thanks for the reply!
After doing some more work on my car, it turned out that my engine is actually a 4G35, stock should be either 4G33 or 4G32 for this model.
And about the carb, I just tried to link the secondary to primary throttle mechanically and I was surprised by how much more power I got flooring it than before.
I also has some horrible experience with the car for the last few months especially when it stalled and almost got towed and almost got charged USD100 for it. :facepalm:
After checking it was due to a fuel pump problem or I'm suspecting it more of a vapor lock problem, luckily we got away from the tow guys by pouring in fuel on the carb and parking on the gas station near ahead. (A)

Now I turned to an electric pump from mechanical; raised the carb air filter (which used to be so low it got the radiator hose pinched); and utilized the fuel return line which was just plugged before. Now it's running a lot better then before.
