you have to have a look, the intake is always round, but the exhaust on 90% of the older ones is square..

^^True, you have to look^^
Another hint seems to be that square ports seem to have have 2 pipes at the join between the manifold and front pipe. These are usually the higher revving , smaller, long-primary type motors. GBs came with 1400 and 1600 motors. I havent seen a 1600 with square ports. The GAs came with 1300 and 1500 motors. Ive never seen a round port on a 1300. It doesnt help that the heads can be swapped around. It also doesnt help that square ports are RUMOURED to flow better, so a lot of them went to rally cars. (Personally I dont think there's any difference in flow - I think its just that a lot of 1500s had square port heads and that the 1500 was the best capacity for the valve sizes). So the only reason it matters is if you want to buy extractors - cant see the point in this cos the original setups are quite good.
Just my 2c.

also the stud pattern on squares is different to round, the gap between studs on each port is wider on squares.
i have a square port 1600 in my coupe at the moment, they do exist, and my last 1400 GC was square, and that had a manufold that could be used on square or round ports, had 2 holes drilled stock
its pretty easy just to unscrew the manifold, pull it off the head a bit and take a peek

You'll have to get your distributor modded to suit....

See if there is an outlet for vacuum advance on the carb....

I think, there is no vacuum advance on the weber. So the distributor would need to be modded to only use mechanical advance.

Hey asked the seller about that and this is what he said "Not too sure on that as I had just a rubber block-off over the nipple coming from the vacuum solenoid. As far as I know, thats all they did..
Maybe check out sigma-galant.com for some more info as they have a dedicated place there for Lancers & Galants where you can join up and ask them questions and im betting you will get the right answer!" lol
any ideas

Shouldn't the vacuum advance come from just above the butterflies in the carb?

This is legal on your car too, as it's pre jan 1976 (that's when pollution controls came in).
You can put bigger rims on it too (the ADR rules for wheels came in Jan 1973), you should have a calculation to mutiply your weight by, ant that will give you max size allowable. Check with the RTA, for your local regs...

This means your car is old enough to be able to put webers on legally (I doubt anything newer than 1976 is legal)

Yeah, off topic a bit. but on what I was talking about a bit cause it relates to legalities..... I just figured your next thing would be, 'what rims can I put on this bad boy'.
