75wagon's 75 GC Wagon with twin carbs (pic heavy)

Post by 75wagon »

Just thought I'd take advantage of my car being clean from yesterdays Sydney/ Newcastle cruise...
So here are some pics of my cars... (pinched Danturbolancer's location)

My car is a Sept 1975 build. I bought this car in January 2004 and drove it for a while while I collected parts for the build. I took it off the road for 3 years and stripped the whole car back to bare metal, file finished the panels and tried to make it straight. I only found 1 small rust affected area in the rear passenger guard (smaller then my thumb nail). I repaired the area with a welded plate.
I've had the car back on the road since December 2008. And it gets a bit of attention, if not from it's looks as it's driving by, it's the carbs/ exhaust combo (it's quite loud).
The theme I've tried to keep to is 'Old School', I think I've succeeded, from the 13x6 inch 70's rims to the twin carb almost weber type sound it puts out. I love the sound of the 1600 but it does lack a bit of power, but it was never intended to be fast, just a cruiser.
I have fitted Recaro seats, which sit quite low in the car (my shoulder is at the top of the door trim for reference), it's quite comfortable but leaves little room for backseat passengers.
Besides the steering wheel and the Recaros the interior is original, although I have modded the console for a stereo and had to move it 1 inch toward the rear of the car to fit the 5 speed gearbox. The carpet is in need of replacing but considering it's age I think it's held up well.

These Carbies are factory original Solex/ Mukini fitted to overseas models, they were not original on this car, but I had to have them.

Here are some build shots
All work done to the car was done by me. Paint, panel and mechanical. Even the sigma/galant.com stickers in the above photos were made by me.

love this car mate...

soo much attention to detail in the paintwork.

to look down the line of the car, i think it is better than factory, straight as an arrow.

love the sound of the carbies, i had to turn the stereo down and i basically drove like a granny for a while just so i could hear the car at its full potential - excellent!

am very jealous of your recaros, if you hear of any being sold, tell me please haha

hope to hear from you soon and go for another local cruise

cheers,
Dean

I put a lot of time into it, "time I have, money I don't", I wish I'd spent a little more and not rushed it in the end. I ended up getting the shits with it. The carbies/ exhaust have an epic sound wish it went as quick as it sounded it could. I look up Recaros and stuff for sale every now and then, will let you know if I find any.
Will be out cruisin' again soon. But am going down the coast this Friday. Hope to see GC75's coupe. That's the plan anyway....

Thanx for the comments, It make me feel like it's all been worth it.

Very, very nice mate. I have always wanted a wagon, I have found two stashed away but they will have to wait for the coupe to be finished. The wife isn't too happy with the idea of some wagons in the back yard, lol
Again, very nice mate

I approve of this product or event.

Makes me want a wagon lol.

If it were mine i reckon a 2ltr 4g63 n/a motor froma late model galant would liven the old girl up :) but still the saturn looks the goods an im sure it sounds good too. Whats economy like?

About 10 Litres to the 100kms, but I haven't put carby kits in yet and these carbs were in the garage for about 4 years before I put them on (so the guy I bought them off said). I'm lazy I know. I'm putting another block in, as I have one that has had a bit of work done to it. The head is already done, with slightly larger valves (don't ask me what size). I've got a new Timing chain and heavy duty clutch to go on it. After all that I'll get the car put on a dyno, and get the distributor modded to suit the carbs and the Cam and adjustable Cam gear that I'm waiting to get off Kudos. I hope it will pack a little more punch when done, but to be serious I could lose my licence on a Postie Bike (read tool).

Dave.

I can't do it. I don't know why but I can't bring myself to change it....
I love the saturn, slow or not.

Got a no. 5 cam and a cheaterparts adjustable cam gear on the weekend (thanx to Kodos)
Now I just have to get a new oil pump and I should be right to put my other motor in.
Fitting a heavy duty clutch at the same time.
Take the reco'd head off my motor (fitted with larger valves, don't ask me how big)
fit new timing chain.

I wonder where I'd get a wheel brace that big?
Seriously though. If I was going to spend a shit load more money on this car it would be on wheels and ride height. That pics really is how I would want it to look. Can't see it getting through rego though.
I wonder what size those rims would be in real life?

I really wanted to get 15 or 16x8 Konig Rewinds, but Dean thinks they are unavailable now?
The other problem is I like deep dish wheels and I want to keep the original shape of the body, unfortunately the 2 ideas don't go together.....

Yeah, the old wagon made an impact. I went to her presentation day today, and other parents were asking me about the car.
When I'm not driving it, it hides in the garage. So a lot of them didn't even know I had it.

Think about this.
A few of the kids were dropped off in Limos. The we come up the street, and pull out right out the front of the club.
I did the whole limo driver thing, got out and opened the door for her.
I'm wearing a red suit jacket and otherwise all black, to match her black skirt and top and red bolero jacket.
After I drop her off, I cruise out on the street and open it up as I leave. I think every head in the street was turned to see my wagon
She normally hates my car, but last night she told me it was the best car there...

It was different to the rest of them anyway....

Dave
